Did you get 7.97 from Gex-cube site because mine is a Gex-cube 9600 pro and havn't tryed that one yet is that Cat 4.1.
The version that came shipped with mine is 7.94 which works fine except won't run Call of Duty.
Just checked there site and the only version they seem to have is 7.94A

Hiya Guys

Sorry to kinda start the questioning again, im sure the answer is amongst these 62 pages, but I ait go 5 hours spare to read through!

I have the following PC, built from scratch a month ago:

ASUS A7N8x Deluxe MOBO
AMD XP3000+
Crucial DDR 3200 Ram
Maxtor SATA HDD
and a Histech Iceq Radeon 9800 Pro

I have the following games: C&C Generals, Max Payne 2 and Tron 2.0

After playing all of the games, same problem as most of you, it either restarts, blue screens, or more often than not - quits back to windows with no error messages!

I have tried the latest Catalyst Drivers (4.10 I think it is), The latest Nvidia drivers for my MOBO chipset, The latest BIOS for my MOBO, even the latest SATA Drivers!

I have XP, with SP1a and DX9...

I am Sooooooo out of ideas its not even funny!

Has anyone had any luck fixing the 9800 Pro?

Hi Bob,

No I got the 7.97 package (4.1 drivers), from the ati site.It all went very smoothly. I did have the 7.94a package in it for about one week and during that time I could run my machine at 8X with default settings and with fastwrites on. During that time it crashed once with GTA vice city. Since then with 7.97 installed, it's running fine, touch wood!!!! But I did update my via chipset and most of the tips suggested in this fourm. For me this looks like it has fixed all of my problems.

Ok, I've just seen way too much here that I have in common with...
Here's my Problem(s):
computer freezes while playing 3d games, Battle1942, aquamark3d, dungeon siege...
have also had crashes to desktop, and gathering or threw exception errors.
I've tried quite a few things to attempt to fix it or at least find a culprit to my problems:
reinstallation of windows xp pro, format, service pack downloads, DX9a and b, hardware acceleration turned down, 4x agp instead of 8x, fastwrites off/on, new cat drivers 3.9/4.1, also tried new chipset drivers, tried new promise drivers for HDD (fasttraktx2 for xp, and even went crazy and installed windows 2000 promise drivers for SATA378) also have a bios upgrade downloaded but not yet installed. My temps are all good, and my Psu is good, 12v rail is at 18a, and my power connections are directly connected to the video card and HDD.

I think that about covers it,
My main worry is that my SATA HDD is not being recognized as a SATA but instead an IDE of some type.
Im still not sure if the HDD is corrupting data and thus creating exception errors or if its something to do with my un-updated bios or maybe even something I have never heard of before. Im sure there are others having this same problem and want this issue resolved asap. I know I dont want a $1500 paperweight in my room .
please please help, I cant stand it anymore.

Hey when you install drivers above 3.7, do any of you get loads of glitches on screen ONLY if fast write is turned off. Problem is fast write crashes me, but any newer drivers, including Omega and DNA, causes glitches on screen. Thanks.

I have had really nice FPS and graphics when I can get in game, problem is I have never stayed in any game for more than 5 minutes. The symptoms make me want to think its my videocard overheating, but I keep getting exception error messages. =( Plus my case is modded with 6 noisy 2900rpm fans and my temps are all within normal limits, cpu = 35 C and mobo @ 23 C. I know radeon 9800's have a heat problem due to their smaller fan but I have nothing overclocked and extra cooling so it should be alright. Umm also what does it mean when there is a solid beep from the PC speaker just as the computer shuts down?

Has any one used ATIs Smartgart uninstaller. Just wondering if taking out Smartgart makes any difference.

Hi Bob,

I haven't done it but I don't think you can? Or don't install the control panel? Where I got the 3.10 drivers you could down load the control panel seperatly.

Marc

MSI KT400 Ultra ms-9590
AMD 2400

The nVidia drivers are for my motherboards chipset and built in sound! Its nothing to do with the graphics card.
There are no built in graphics on the board!

If I un-install them, what will my motherboard be using?

Well I am now totally confused.
I'm still running Cat 3.8 and I just tryed Call of Duty on line and It works????
Played it for about an hour.
It did crash twice at the start, the first time vpu recovery caught it and put me straight back in the game. The second time send error report stuffed it up but it didn't crash the system.
Disabled the error report and it ran fine.
That has never happened on Cat 3.8, usually crashed after a couple of mins.
The only thing I can remember doing before I ran it was making sure hardware sound acceleration of sound 1 and sound 2 in dxdiag were off, and I chose the lowest sound settings for the game and creative labs eax.
I was reading in another forum where some guys thought I was as sound problem.
The way they said to check was to disable your sound either from your bios if its on board or even take the card out and delete the sound driver. Ignore any new hardware orders by windoze, run things without sound and see what happens. If its ok then it could be an IRQ sharing problem with sound and graphics driver sharing same IRQ.
Any way back to CoD while it still works.

Call me goofy and fry me a sausage!!!!

Hi Brett from the UK,

It came out a week or two, I don't know exactly but it fixed my Gexcube 9600 pro game buster crashes.
I got it 4 days ago I think ? But It worked for me!!!! It's late here on OZ so I can't give spec's but either above or page 62 you will get a better look at my pc.

cheers marc.
