Nice one bud!.
I upgraded my PC last week (P4 chip and Asus P4V800-x mobo and Radeon 9800 Pro gfx card) and since then F1 Challenge 99-02 has been crashing constantly and driving me nuts.
Reducing the AGP from 8 to 4 has sorted the problem for me.
Ta very much....

i swear i'm not bulls**tting, but i think Catalyst 3.4s may have fixed my problems. before, i couldn't play NFS:U, it would crash. now, after i installed them, it runs pretty fine (very rare lockups). i had no lockups before i installed the control panel, though with the control panel, it appears to have more frequent (but rarer than previous) lockups. i think installing the control panel and increasing AA to 8, AF to 16 may have caused a little stress on the GPU.

running at all settings stock.

try 3.4. it's only a 9Mb download for both the control panel and driver.

Although newer catalyst drivers seem to work for some I must say 3.4 (driver that came with my card) seems to be the best solution 4 me too. Cant play cod though. If my card has issues with bf vietnam because of old drivers I will get ridd of it because I really am sick of it.

bah...what about for those that don't have 3.4 cats as the ones that come on CD? I have a lousy Sapphire Cd that loads god knows what drivers...if the old driver set seems to be working so well, i wonder why engineers/coders would even bother upgrading

i remember when ATI made solid cards...but had sh*tty drivers and now they have too many drivers and sh*tty cards...

first of just download 3.4 from ati's website and try it. Second 3.4 doesn't fix all problems its just the one with the least problems 4 me.

on posts 30 - 31 (if i remember correctly), there were also a few people who praised Cat 3.4s as being stable.

it still freezes for me, though it takes much longer. i'm very sure it's becuase i maxed the AA and AFs (and changed the colour to 32bit). if it still freezes, i could always uninstall the control panels, at least it still works.

download 3.4s from the ATi site if you don't have it.

when my card didnt work i never tried 3.4.. i went as low as 3.5 and it worked great for me (except for cs). Those were probably the most popular picks for drivers that worked. (3.4-3.6). I'm happy i can now use the newer drivers (3.10 and up) =].

Is this the leading post on the website or what? By the sheer size of it it makes me want to stay away from 9600s all together!

Hi folks here is a very rough translation of the above guys post.

Hello .... that post longer .... first of all ... I realize of that even that we all have different chipset badges mothers .. and processors .... we come to the same error .... now I am proving the last driver and this way and quite I continue with problems ..... the curious thing is that in windows98se have no problems .. but if in 2000 and XP .... now .. the question of the million dollars ...... the GPU of ATI .... is it bad made??? if it is like that ... we lose the time going down driver and giving strange solutions and out of the standard thing ... for my taste ... if one acquires a videocard he wants her to improve the finished system ... not to create to you problems and headaches ..... of my point of view ATI I should give a response to the problem .. and to give a very prompt solution....

My system is A MB ASUS A7V333, CPU AMD Athlon XP 1700 + without overclock (With volcano 9), VGA Asus A9600se, 256ram Samsung (PC2100), SB Live MP3 + (4.1), Lan Compaq and Dlink, generic modem, PS350W, Mouse MS Explorer Optical USB, Keyboard MS Explorer, CDROM ASUS 52X, Engraver LG 12X8X32, Frill Genius USB, MS SideWinder FreeStyle USB, Lever of flight IBM port of joystick, Web cam LG USB, Monitor LG 17 ".

I wait that ATI of a prompt solution .. for that I think that they teased us with the videocard....

Greetings community of frozen ATI.....

Hope this helps folks- sorry about the grammer but the point he makes seems to be that Win 98Se users have no problems. Well I use Win 98SE and we do get problems too- although to a lesser degree - in my case cos I have a gigabyte brand of card.
Regards Twilight

omg! i have read forums about radeon 9800 series and they seem to have excactly the same problems as the 9600 series.. I have a radeon STANDARD 9600 and it crashes with many games.. Thps4 and cs for example.. I bought this finnish built pc for 2 weeks ago and starting to get angry about this.. now im downloading the newest cat drivers for the card.. can that solve the problems? now i have 3.8 installed. It was that xp had.. i tried that after installing from the cd.

if it works on Windows 98 only, why don't we attempt to run games under 98 OS instead of 2000/XP?

yesterday, i experienced a crash at one specific point in the game (i've tried at least 5 times, they all crash at that point.)

turned off FW - nothing
dropped to 4x - nothing
turned AA to 2x + AF to 2x - success! though it would only last a little longer.

i'm going to try underclock my card.

Can someone install these 2 games? War of the ring and age of empires 2 conquerors expansion pak. They are the ONLY games which i so far cannot get working. I got UT2004 recently and it runs beautifully except there are some odd crashes something with my motherboard beeping indicating something to do with graphics card or monitor. I have updated my motherboard bios and it seems to have fixed the problem (thank goodness).

Can someone please tell me if they can get thoes 2 games working on a 9600xt?

gigabyte n400 pro 2
3200xp amd
9600xt sapphire 256 megs

exactly how does it freeze? does it automatically freeze when you do a certain thing, certain stage in the game, or does it just freeze when you enter the game?

if i install it, my version will be cracked (i don't have the real copy)

on my pc the game freezes just suddenly... cs and thps4 the screen goes black and sometimes the sound loops in around 3 secs.. then the screen cames into the game with the vpu recovery thing.. i can go on playing.. b4 i installed the 4.2 cat patch the screen was just black and i had to press the restart buttom.. so there you have it..

ATI RADON SUXX... why cant they understand that this is a very big and serious problem ???
cant somebody make an email everybody with this problem shall send to ati.. please
i think that will help so they understand the "bigness" of this bug/prob
