I've tried various solutions - none seem to work (and the creashes seem to be getting worse - apparently I have a "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" - whatever that means).

So I'm going to go back to the PC retailer and ask for an alternative card as the one supplied is not fit for purpose. Can anyone recommend a reasonable alternative (Similar price / decent performance?)

Thanks

(and sorry this doesn't help anyone else out)

how do you set your voltage that high? i only have the options of 1.6-1.8 in my MSI KT4V. For those of you who are wondering why this card doesnt get as high of scores in dx8 benchmarks. Everyone buys this card because of how good it plays dx9 games. It the best all around card for the price range.

Jesse Juurela: Check if AGP texture acceleration is enabled in DirectX. It gave me about 10000 points more in Aqua Mark 3. (Run dxdiag to check)

I had the Same problem, Lockups, Freezing. Strange colors ect.
............... HERE IS HOW I FIXED IT..................

1) Un-Install the old Video Drivers First.
2) If using a VIA Chipset, Download the Service Pack from VIA for AGP.

Then Go to the System BIOS ...
3) Set your AGP Apature ram to the amount on your card (64,128, 256 ect..)

4) Disable Video RAM Sharing ....(this is very important)

This should take care of any problems

And if "Video RAM Sharing" is not a listed option?
I've dealt with BIOS settings for years, and never seen a setting like this for stand alone graphics cards.
I've only seen something like this only regarding integrated units that should be disabled anyway.
What MoBo, and BIOS type are you getting this from?

Also.........

A link to this "Service Pack" would be helpful.
Or do you mean the Hyperion 4.49 drivers?
I've searched the VIA website for a standalone AGP driver that's not included in 4.49.

Fastwrites has virtually 0 effect on speed.

AGP 8x may have 1-2% improvement in performance in some situations.

Crazy

Blah! I apologize ATI! Radeon 9600 series is new ,so it propably starts to work properly wit cata 3.9 or 4.0 or something like that? It is amazing that 9600pro should compete wit Fx5900 in HL2! and maybe doom3.
I'm waiting doom3 wit my tong out spit flying everywhere!
So let's hope the 9600series CARD/BOARD isn't incompatible wit everything. Let's hope it's just the drivers ,if new drivers get everything work all who bought ati might be :) after newer drivers come out..

I believe in firepower..

Im glad I found this thread as suggestions from ppl in here saved me. I too bought a 9600 pro only to find *all* my 3d games (neverwinter nights, fifa 2003, freedom fighters, etc.) locked my pc up solid after 1-5 mins (I have asus a7v600 mobo with via 4.49 drivers and 3.7 catalyst drivers on windows 2000 sp4). It was sending me nuts until I found someone here saying to turn the agp setting down to 4x in the bios. This works, giving me a rock solid system that runs games very nicely. I am currently running the card at 1.6 v to see if it is stable, and then I will turn it up to 1.7 in the bios as suggested by one of the contributors here, and have another go at using 8x. BUT I have to say I am not happy with ATI - I 'upgraded' from my TI 4400 so I could enjoy DX9 visuals, and if they say it works at agp 8x then it should work; none of this mucking about with bios tweaks. Incidentally, the 3.8 catalyst drivers are hopeless for me; they slow windows down horribly, and ruin fifa 2003 entirely, reducing the players to wireframes and making the colours a psychedelic mess. Straight back to 3.7, thanks to a timely Ghost image. I really hope this is just a teething problem with the drivers and not a hardware issue or I will never trust ATI to sell me a decent card again. I'm half tempted just to ditch it and get the FX 5700 when it comes out in a week or two as it is.

umm fastwrite has a 10% decrease if disabled but the difference between 8x and 4x isnt even 1% more like .5.

why would you bother upgrading from a ti4400 to a 9600? i mean the 9600 pro is a good card but thats not worth the upgrade to me lol...
