Hi all together!

I have almost read all posts in this forum and i see that there is no "real" solution yet. Just to put another "brick in the wall" i am going to post my probs.
Hardware:
Mobo = Gigabyte 7vaxp-ultra
North-bridge : VIA KT400
South-bridge : VIA 8235
512MB DDR 333Mhz RAM
CPU = AMD 2400+ XP
PS = 350W
DVD burner + DVD/CDRW combo
Gigacube 9600Pro Ganebuster 256MB

Quite a good hardware. I bought it some months ago, hoping it would give me a good game experience. The only thing was that i changed my GC from a MMX 420 to that "inbreed" Gamebuster and the s**t began. First I got blue screens all the time in XP, freezes, crashes. Now I managed to have only crashes after some time of "3D gamming" ('cause U can't call it gaming)!
I tried it all. AGP 4x, 1.8V, older drivers, updating drivers, new installation, etc. Nothing works really! I still have crashes!!! I am now going to update my system again, hoping that will fix my probs. Don't know if a new Mobo will be the best solution. I just consider that a big company as ATI, Gigabyte, VIA and Gigacube should test the compatibility for their products.
Let's see if anybody can solve the probs we have!

Thx and GL 2 ALL!

Juan de Dios check the gecube website, there are known problems with via kt400 chipsets and ati radeon cards.
There isnt a fix tho.

Juan: Are you using the catalyst 3.2 drivers that come with the card? That's the drivers I use and that's stable for me.

The Gigacube website does point to some problems with KT400 which they recommend increasing the AGP voltage but he said he's already tried that.

BTW I have a very similar set up to him, except I have a VIA KT333 based motherboard.

Ok guys, I am going to try the 3.2 ati drivers. Haven't done so yet, 'cause they are a little old and there are a few others in between! Let's see if I can solve the probs a little more with those drivers.
BTW, I already read the Gigacube post on their page, but it doesn't solve the prob so far.

I keep you up to date on my progresses, crashes or other strange happenings! Hehe, you never know what's in there!

I think i found the solution
Go to the c:\windows\ati technologies folder and run smartgart there......then in the options you get disable AGP WRITE, the game runs without flickering cursor, i hope that helped!

Hi mates, here I go again! Now with a "possible" solution for all, who are running a Gigabyte 7vxp or similiar! I reinstalled all (OS, drivers, SP1, etc.) Then I updated the mobo driver to version 4.49 (VIA 4in1 driver Hyperion). After that the card drivers to catalysit 3.8, but with the independent installer (1 for driver, 1 for control panel). Another important thing is, that I didn't installed the directx 9.0 or 9.0b. I put the AGP to 4x and raised the voltage to 1.8V, and lowered the hardware accelaration 1 nodge. Now my system seems to be stable at least, but I don't know for how long. It is just a "possible solution and I don't know if it will work forever or if it is just a lucky coinsidence. I have been playing UFO. Aftermath and UT2003 for about 3 hours yesterdayand nothing crashed. I don't know if the problem is also related with directx 9.x or any incompatibility with the card drivers, etc. I have to test it further on (installing 9.0b and test it again). I keep you informed. Maybe this is another "possible" solution for anybody else.

I got the same problems with the Radeon 9600 pro as anyone else here. Done everything to solve the problem, but it had no effect.

My system configuration is: Pentium 4 3 gigahertz 800 FSB 512 cache
mainboard: Albatron PX865PE Pro i865PE DDR400 AGP8x
1024mb memory PC3200 DDR
etcetc
I think the best solution is to replace the card for another brand. Like Geforce for example.

did you already try the way i described it above? Because with that i got every machine to run so far. Important is that you donīt use the smartgart option from the ati settings menue but in the foler c:\windows\program files\ati technologies\ati controll panel\smartgart.exe
if you set the agp write to off, every 9600 should run with c&c generals or AOM .......
You donīt have to change AGP8x or the Hardware Acceleration!

Alright. I don't own one of these cards, but my friend has one in the mail for a new computer I'm helping him build. But after reading all these posts, I have an idea of a fix. Note, this may not do any good, and it does have a possibility of frying your card. Anyway, back when my friend got his 9700 PRO (Sapphire), he was having hang freezes with games. He could run UT2003, and 3DMark 2001, but whenver he tried to play MOHAA or MOHAA spearhead, his comp would lock up after a few seconds. The fix for his card was to up the AGP voltage a little. It's been almost a year, so I don't remember how much he did, but it instantly fixed his stability issues. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but since it sounds like a similar problem, I would have to think upping your AGP voltage might help.

McFear: Been there...done that. Yeah I've tried everything apart from....

Jackson: Yeap upping AGP voltage is a known solution to the problem, it's been mentioned several times already. It's usually done from within the BIOS but sometimes a jumper switch may be necessary...but not everyone (like myself) has this option in their system.
