It may be cheaper to just build a computer out of very old very cheap parts. Here is what I came up with all off newegg.com

Intel Celaron 1.3GHz $45
Socket 370 MOBO $45
128MB PC-133 $25
or
AMD Athalon 1.1Ghz $35
Socket A MOBO $45
128MB PC-133 $25

With all of the parts I bet it won't cost more then $200 depending on how big of a HDD you want! Not to bad I'd say for a system that would easily be $500 1 year ago.

ehh, what can I say, im lazy. Also I just want an old pc cause, well there cheap. As for garage sales, around here most people don't sell old pcs cause this town is not a very techie based town.

I've got an old PII 400mhz w/ 64megs.... but it has been so long I would honestly have to check. I'd be willing to sell it for 50$. Last I checked everything was in good working order. Granted it hasn't been used in quite a while, but I'd be happy to plug it in and make it can boot to an OS (just to make sure everything works). If you are still interested please let me know here.

I'm sure I can find the extra RAM if that is a serious sticking point.

Ebay is the place to get this sorted. For some reason, there seems to be a lot of machines of this type with 17” monitors (I was thinking about getting one myself the other day), which is always a bonus :)

Hey Robert,

There is already a thread going on, where the OP is looking to sell his old PC.

Why don't you correspond with him and go for that PC. It can work well with Linux.

Here is the thread link
