The VIA KT133A Chipset

The KT133A is VIA’s follow-up to the original KT133 chipset, with the major difference between the two being the former’s support for a 133 MHz (266 MHz DDR) Front Side Bus." alt="VIA KT133A" border=0>

The KT133A is built on the familiar Northbridge/Southbridge architecture that we’ve seen used for the last few years. In such a design, the Northbridge is responsible for processor, memory, and graphics control, while the Southbridge, which connects to the Northbridge via the PCI bus, is responsible for I/O functions (IDE, PCI, USB, etc.). The KT133A is comprised of the VT8363A Northbridge, and VT82C686B Southbridge.

The KT133A’s support for the 133MHz FSB allows it to support current and future Athlons using the faster bus speed. For more information on the KT133A chipset, you can visit VIA’s website:
