Taipei, November 12th - First International Computer Inc. is ushering in a new age of computing at Comdex Fall 2001 with its introduction of two new, revolutionary Tablet PCs: Thunder and Crystal.
FIC announces Thunder and Crystal as the answer to users' call for a highly portable and flexible business PC that will allow them to work when and where they want. Thunder and Crystal combine all the strength and productivity of fully functional laptop with the simplicity of pen and paper
Thunder and Crystal are part of a broad industry Tablet PC initiative that builds on the capabilities of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition to extend the functionality of PCs. Tablet PCs are the evolution of today's laptops, extending their capabilities with the addition of pen input, handwriting and speech technologies. With these new capabilities, the Tablet PC will be the user's primary PC, performing additional tasks such as taking notes, annotating documents and reading information online. With software developed by Microsoft Corp. for the new platform, the Tablet PC can function as a sheet of paper where handwriting is captured and manipulated by applications specially designed to make full use of its capabilities.
"Just like the introduction of the PC or laptop, Thunder and Crystal Tablet PCs truly represent a whole new era of computing." President of FIC's Networking and Information Group, Gene Sheu, said in a statement this morning. "FIC is extremely proud to be on the forefront of this revolution with our introduction of Thunder and Crystal. Thunder and Crystal provide our customers with state of the art solutions."
"The release of Thunder and Crystal positions FIC as a strong contributor to the Tablet PC effort," says Alexandra Loeb, General Manager of Tablet PC at Microsoft. "Together we are moving the bar in evolving the portable PC to be more flexible and functional."
Thunder and Crystal, in conformity with the Tablet PC standards, are fully functional IA32 architecture PCs. They run typical business and consumer software in regular Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, enjoy WLAN/WWAN connectivity, and can connect a manifold of peripherals. Don't worry, Thunder and Crystal won't take you by storm: they are silent, compact PCs with a battery life of at least four hours.
