Yeah sounds like if u have that much to spare a 9800 would be good, if not a 9700 Pro would be ok too.

9600PRO! It's going to be fast enough when doom3 comes out (Propably?)

I saw how doom3 leaked demo ran on 9600 pro, i almost didn't believe my eyes!

I had seen it @ half years ago on G4Ti and it was a slide show..

On 9600pro it ran smooth & fast, that was amazing (a littlebit oFf-ToPiC)

(Of course it will run faster on 9800)

I believe in firepower..

9800se/9600XT for the budget minded (~$150/$165).

The 9600pro's seem to be having too many issues for me to mess with.

9700pro/9800/9800pro/9800XT for the not so budget minded (~$250/$250/$300/$450).

But the FX5900 isn't bad for ~$200. It's right at the 9600XT's performance in DX9.

What, does everybody here work for ATI?
Trust me, if you buy a nice 5700 Ultra (128 or 256, either will do) you will forget all about ATI. I have used the R9800SE and it comes NOWHERE near the quality image you get on an FX card. Framerates are high (sometimes a tad lower than the ATI equivalent) but sharpness and clarity are still higher. You won't regret picking NV over ATI.

Think of it like this. A decent FX5600 costs you $100-$140. A 9600 of the same clockspeeds costs nearly $170! Not to mention variants like the SE, Pro, and XT. I can pull easily 70FPS on a $110 Palit FX5600 in Halo, at 8X. At 4X it's even higher. Imagine what a 5700U can do!

Ah, off Newegg, a 5900 128M only $205!!!
ATI Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro (chosen because of the close speed and same memory size) $305.
I rest my case.

LOL

The 5600 doesnt event compare to the 9600 Pro.

The 5900 nonultra doesnt even come near the 9800 Pro.

Dude u should quit ur job at nvidia now ;)

If I were to go out and buy a new video card TODAY... I would buy a 5700 Ultra after all the reviews and pricing I have read. I think it is the best bang for your buck. I will only buy an ATI once nVidia fails me... which they have yet to do.

wait which one is top of the line because im confused

is it the 9800xt or the 9800se or the fx5950 ultra because from what i have heard it's a 50 -50 tie
they are about the same

or dose an x-box have better graphics ?
because my brother wants an all around computer but for me im more of a gaming person

9800XT is top dog on DX9 games. The 9800se rates at about a 9600pro level of performance. The 9600XT seems to be a good card so far. The 5900 is a good performer for the cost of a 9600XT. But a 9800/9800pro/9800XT will out perform it.

I recommend that you stay away from the 9600's due to there being too many problems with them. So, I say the 9800se is a very good replacement for it. But get a 9800/9800pro/9800XT if you can afford them. The 5950 and 5900Ultra are overpriced for the DX9 performance you get.

ATI Radeon 9800se! You can modernize it to 9800 pro!

Alvin-
Not all 9800 SE's are moddable into a 9800pro. Only the ones with 256bit memory. Which is a very small percentage of them. And of those with 256bit memory, only about 50% mod well, or at all. But they all overclock well.

Actually I don't work for nVidia. I work for Majestic...
If you had an FX card, you'd say nVidia. Anyways, all I'm saying is, nVidia is one step ahead of ATI, and if you want to stay on top for a long time, you should go for nVidia. Trust me, the FX5600 beats the crap out of the 9600SE/Pro/XT. Go for nVidia if you're willing to put down a little extra cash for lower framerates but cleaner graphics. ATI still hasn't learned that you can't charge $500 for a card just because of all the hype surrounding it. nVidia released their FX cores starting at $150. ATI released the 9600+ series starting at $200. This is just like the battle between AMD and Intel. Intel makes a better chip, but what's the point when it costs you double?

Has anybody noticed that ATI (much like AMD) makes a base chip, then makes tiny reprogrammings of the BIOS or drivers to up the performance? Why buy a 3200+ when you can get the 2500+ just at high for 1/4 the cost? nVidia plays their cards right. They use different cores in their cards to give different performances. If ATI was competent at all, they surely would use a different core for each series, instead of just different instruction sets. ATI's getting lazy, and instead of going ahead and making a different onboard, they just make different BIOS, and charge you as though it's a whole new card.

m8 i have to agree with you on most of that, but the fact is why not get the radeons now, especially the 9800 se's and 9500 pro's because they are extremely overclockable and so surely we should take advantage of this rather than spending unessesary (i can't spell) extra cash.

I do prefer nvidia over ati but at the moment nvidia messed up, i know when the 6000series come out (if they don't re-name) i will be one of the first to get one but for now its ati...

As far am Im concerned ATI have been ahead of nvidia ever since the 9700 Pro came out. Nvidia is still just catching up with THAT card, expecially with dx9

ok so if you need a gaming card an ati is the way to go but if you won't use it for gaming but still need
fast speed and high resolutions go nvidia

because we need something that wont give us problems it's efficient need very little maintinence
and will out performe most or all video cards in gaming 2d applications and videos

because i got pretty old games but they are still fun and i might my a couple of games in the feautre
and i don't want just a gaming card i need an all around performer

what shoul i get?
