as title says, my barton is being detected as a duron... ive seen a few posts similar to this, but mine is a bit different in that my specs seem to be just fine... i havnt messed with bios at all.

3dmarks detects this as my cpu:
AMD Duron(tm) 1.9 GHz
Manufacturer AMD
Family Duron(tm)
Internal Clock 1.9 GHz
Internal Clock Maximum 3.0 GHz
External Clock 167.0 MHz
Socket Designation Socket A
Upgrade ZIF Socket
Capabilities MMX, CMov, RDTSC, 3DNow!, Extended 3DNow!, SSE
Version AMD Athlon(tm) XP
Caches
Level 1 128 KB
Level 2 512 KB

system properties simply says: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+

now, before i flash... i just wanna know if i should bother.
that is, i dont really care what it is being called, so long as i have the performance of a 2600 barton that i paid for... and as far as i can tell, it is. 1.9 ghz, and the caches list as the right levels... anything else i should look into?

thanks !

Do you know that a BIOS upgrade will properly identify the processor? If so, then go ahead as long as you do it correctly. But if you don't know that it will, then why bother as long as it works properly?

this is my mobo:
soyo kt600 dragon ultra platinum
http://www.soyousa.com/products/proddesc.php?id=256

and that was really the question for me: i think i am getting full performance out of my barton, but how can i be sure? im far from being an expert in the area.

i just have relativly frequent power outages... and it would just be my luck for it to go out durring a flash... so ide like to avoid it if it wont help me anyway.

Run 3Dmark 2001. Compare your results with others with a similar system. There's also 3DMark 2003, but it's less CPU intensive. It's focus is on the graphics card.
You could also run Sisoft Sandra. It'll rank your system among similar ones. But I'm sure you're getting the full potential from it already. I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't flash if i were you, it's not the bios that's detecting it incorrectly. You'll be getting the full performance out of it.

I wouldn't worry, My Mobo does the same, as long as it is running at the correct speed who cares what 3D Mark says!

My 2500 does similar. It is overclocked to 2200mhz (3200XP). The BIOS reports it as an Athlon 3200+, but come programs report it as a 2200 Duron, and AIDA reports it as a 3000+ , but all are showing speed as 2200mhz, so I'm not worried, nor do I have any plans to flash the BIOS.

Athlon 2500 @ 2200mhz
Geforce 5200 @ 290*360
512mb DDR3200
Shuttle AN35N Ultra

>> 2200 Athlon xp detected as Duron
I had GA-7VAXP mobo which collapsed probably after Electric shock So I got a new Mobo + A new Power Supply. New Mobo is GA-7N400 PRO 2.
The new system , Now Detects the cpu as DURON 1800 MHZ.; CPUID & CPUINFO as well...
I checked the OPN on the CPU itself and it is ok. (AXDA2200DKV3C)
Mobo came allready with up-to-date bios (F5), and all the Jumpers on the Mobo are set to be automated.
In cpu settings in Cmos it is 133 MHZ (external speed).
Still it says DURON 1800 MHZ. and CPU info says it has L1 =64KB \ L2 = 64 KB as well....
What else can I do to make sure it is a CPU problem. (AMD answered me with 2 emails, saying BIOS... But I have nothing to change any more there)
Could it be that the CPU got shock as well? That the cache worn out or something like that?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
