9800 se is not worth it in the least. Im returning mine tomorrow for a 9700 pro because it sucks compared to the 9800 np. I did some figuring and at best this card at its highest point will operate at 3/5 the speed of my 9800 non pro. The card really sucks turds. It should be labeled 9600 non pro. Dont dare try to overclock this peice of junk. Ati should be ashamed to put out this crap and fool consumers with the name. I was unable to find any reputable benchmarks with this item. I strongly beleive this is no mistake.

based on that it would be a questionable buy ... but see later post from Josh

xzanatoz gorforg - don't blame ATI for your stupidity in purchasing this card. If you did not do the correct research beforehand the blame lies entirely upon you. Only a Computer User Non Technical would purchase a part for which their knowledge extends to the brand name.

Of course the 9800SE sucks in comparison to better cards and if you wanted better performance in the first place then dont be cheap - buy the proper goods first time!

Blaming others for your stupidity - lets be mature shall we.

I find those scores hard to believe. I have a Power Color 9800se OCed to 410/600 right now. And it plays Halo with 4X AA and AF, 1024 X 768 and 40-70 FPS. Very good graphics. My 3DMark 2003 score under the aforementioned settings was 3400. That's not bad for a $160 card. I don't expect 9800pro performance and never did. I will concede that naming it 9800 (anything) is misleading to anyone who doesn't research something before they buy it though.

It all depends on how u work it. I mean id like to know how to Upgrade my 9700 Pro AIW to a 9800 Pro AIW via bios upgrade. Like people are doing with 9500s upping them to 9700s

was reading somewhere else that power color mods their cards to be better than stock ati now but of course can't find it now. Is that true ?

Eh Usually 3rd Party boards are more robust as of features and performance.

Doom-

That's what I've been saying all along. The 9800se is just an alternative to the 9600pro. Don't look at it as a 9800. And that's how I decided to buy one. As an alternative to the 9600pro and all the problems people are having with them. The 9800se costs about the same. It overclocks well. And is more stable and runs cooler than a 9600pro. It has a 9700pro cooler on it (the Power Color version). I like mine and am very happy I baught it. But if I were buying a new card today, I'd get the FX5700Ultra. It's blowing away the 9600 series. And at about the same price.

Brandon-

Let us know how it turns out. And keep a PCI video card handy in case the BIOS flash doesn't work. That way you can re-flash it.

What kind of memory cooler are you going to use? I'm thinking of using some old aluminum retail heatsinks myself. Just cut them down. I already have a fan blowing on them.

Me too! old cpu aluminum heatsink cutted to slices(over 6cm tall) gonna glue em up with Arcticsilver thermal adhesive.. what if memory modules are connected to each other with long slices? does they take damage?

Not aluminum FAN :)

well is it worth it im trying to be reasonable im not trying to be cheap cuz theres a board and theres overboard why go so high for no reason super performance for no reason. get me? Well i just want reassurance that the company wont shut down (power color) or stop making the drivers for it like my previous card. does it handle well and in half a year will it be out dated and obsolete those are just what im looking for if you have any answers that reassure me because technically i didnt buy it yet....
