I've had the GA-7VAXP Ultra since it came out last year and am very happy with it.
It now has a AMD 3000XP@333
1024 megs of 512 Hyper X 3200 400@333 <-- bummer when it couldn't run @ 400
1 - 75gig (ata133)
1 - 150 gig (sata 150) 2 partitions
1 -TV PVR FM card
1 - SB 5.1 sound card
1 - PNY Verto 5700LE Optima 128DDR 500mhz oc'd @ 646mhz
250 core clock oc'd @ 323mhz
Dual 400mhz ramdac <--- this card kicks
1 - LiquidVideo 19in Flat Screen LCD
1- sbv4200 voice over IP Cable Modem
I do video editing with it, have a Samsung progressive scan dvd-v3500 /VHS attached to it, watch TV and presently download @ 4825kbps with optimum online. I'm very happy with it. Just wish the HyperX ran at 400mhz which could handle 434 oc w/ case open. Waiting for water cooling to drop in price.

You know Henry, it may not be your ram's fault, that mobo supports DDR400 mem, but only supports 333fsb

Instead of OC'n the fsb, just set the mem for SPD

SPD? Hmm Where did I see that on the BIOS? I know it's set to ultra. When I comeback from work I'll check it out.

Hi there, I'm planning to upgrade my board, i currently own the GA-7VAXP, regretting not waiting for the Ultra version, anyways I have 2 sticks of memory (2 x 512 MB Kingston Value RAM) PC2700 @333MHz and an Athlon XP 2200+, now my plan its to upgrade the memory to PC3200 @400MHz but for this will I need to upgrade also my Up to a processor that supports a 400MHz FSB? Is this correct?, I saw that the manual mentions something like this, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Up FSB must match the speed of the memory. Well, thanks for the advice you can give me.

Save your money for your first socket 939 comp

Hey Carlos

My CPU is the 2700 fsb 333 my memory is PC 3200, it will just under clock the PC 3200 memory for you lol, I see no reason to up the memory to pc3200 unless you also up the CPU to 400 to goe the best out of the machine, I only got the 3200 because it was cheaper then 333.

Jim B you have a very simular system to mine,

I like that,

My "opinion" is that faster cpu, & mem will help all the way around somewhat, & that a faster cpu will not really that much in "real world" situations, but not enough to make it worth it for for him

What I mean is, forget these incremental upgrades, if you are going to do an upgrade, then do a upgrade you can "feel"

Hell, you can get a A64 for &150USD, & a 939mobo fore $100USD, why not wait a little while to you can do it right

In my most humble of opinions

Your welcome, and what OCGrandWizard Keeper of the 4000+ "Xtreme" said is exactly what I am doing moving on to the AMD 64 3500, just watching the forums to see how the SLI boards are doing.

i have, for now, a GA7VA. had no probs at all with it, atleast until i put in a ultra x-connect PSU. they won't play fair together on account of the PSU putting out 12v to the ATX conector whereas the mobo is a 5v ATX. kept refusing to start properly. took an hour and still didn't startup then put in a previous okia 550w and it started up as it should. waiting on a MSI KT880 Delta so i can use the x-connect, which is a really cool PSU

edit: forgot i replied to this a while back lol

Hi

I have a gigabyte GA-7VAXP, I recently upgraded my CPU from an AMD 1800+ to 2200+ and I have had nothing but trouble. Specifically, the system hangs and then freezes at various points during start-up. Sometimes, I can get to the OS but then it will freeze. Also, everytime I start before I can even get to the point where the system freezes the system will restart by itself. Then on restart I can to the screen that asks if I want to start windows normally, etc, . . . Never had any issues when I ran the AMD 1800+.

Anybody know what I need to do to correct this problem.

System specifics:

Gigabyte GA-7VAXP
AMD 2200+
Maxtor 7200 rpm ATA133 40gig
ATI RADEON 9800 All in wonder
1.25 gigs of DDR 2700 RAM

Thanks

Well it's a tricky one but you could probably narrow it down to a number of things possibly going on, either Windows is upset with the CPU upgrade, the CPU itself is faulty in some way or your motherboard might not like the new CPU...have you upgraded the BIOS at all?

The easiest way to test the XP problem is to either wipe and reload the system and start with a fresh install, or try it with a spare hard drive if you have one?

The BIOS you can update with a floppy disk containing the flash.exe and the BIOS file, and you need to get to a DOS prompt, which is normally done by using an old Windows 98 boot disk (handy tool regardless of how wonderful XP is).

See bio for system setup.

I upgraded the bios using the Q-Flash utility included with the dual-bios feature.

Cont. . . . I upgraded tp version .15 the Sempron version. I haven't concluded yet whether the CPU I purchased is a "Sempron" cpu. I believe it is, but could be wrong.

Some further info regarding the power supply. I have an Enermax 430w PS. My system consists of 2 DVD players and 3 harddrives. Also, I have a Audigy card with a front panel interface along with the Radeon 9800 Card (which requires a direct power hook-up.)

Could power supply be an issue?
