Any idea of why?

The Joystick functions 100% under Win98/ME. I even have some Pads that do the same thing.. Yet it isn't being pressed in the dirtection it is drifting in. Only with the pads set as a keyboard key does this stop. so it isn't the Joystick, or the D-Pad. There has to be something that is causing this within the driver or game software.. o/s itslef? Anyone else ahve similar problem?

WinXP Home w/ SP1
D-Pads : Various Generic, Logitech Rumble Pad, Nostromo N50.
Joysticks : 2 Generic, Logitech Wingman Interceptor.

Particular game..? UT2004, UT2003, Starwars series, Battlefield 1942, nearly any flight sim type of game. So nothing in particular. :)

Maybe I am missing something stupid? I would suspect the game controler (in the case of the joysticks) or the port.. but it happens with the -pads too, with the exception of the Nostromo. And only one when I set the axis of the d-pad to be mapped to the keyboard.

USB, and Gameport have same results. Which leads me to think Driver and/or O/S related problem.

Anyone else shed some light or thoughts?

replug the devices and grab latest drivers for them and read what fixes they pertain to.

I've had similar problems. Sometimes it would think the stick was ebing pushed when it wasn't, or that the throttle was moved.

It made configuring conrols hell.
As soon as you click on a box to activateit, (you know, you have a list of commands, and button assignments, you click opne, then press the button to assign to that command) it would be filled with whatever is being pressed/tilted/moved (when it actually isn't)

What I did was unplug my joystick when I used the gamepad and vice versa
and I made sure that the throttle is held all the way to one direction while I asigned my buttons.

Also, if you can, set your deadzone to be larger (somewhere in your joystick/gamepad proprerties)
The weird thing is that I didn't have this problem before XP

Hey guys... THanks..

I tired most of your suggestions.. .. no all. :)

I get a buy a new "___product___" ..I 'd like to tell them that I have no intentions of ever buying one of your products again.. because I don't want this crap happening to me.. AGAIN....

Except for one thing. XP. I had NO problems with any configuration.. (and some I was expecting) with preXP.
The Game port is not recignized properly in XP. and most of my USB devices are conflicting If htere are more then one input.. example.. USB mouse AND USB Keyboard at same time. Mostly for gameing movements..)

I had one Joystick I paid over 100$ for.. but there was just one flaw with it. It had a toggle button that was either #14 or #15, as being always on. Screwed me on my CUSTOM button assignments, because that was the only choice I had. #14 OR # 15.. Nince stick.. but that was the reson it was returned. Can't use it the way I want. and once it was started (keyassignments) I was screwed for all of them. (Saitek X45..) Sweet stick. but one _M_ajor problem.

BAh.. p**s me off.. Neither company is supporting the old stick(s) that I have.. and M$ won't do anything about it because it isn't there "software/hardware problem". Bastards..

Oh.. it all works fine under Linux! :).. now to see if wine will handle some games.. (Oh joy!)

I saw someone with a sig "Requires Windows or better.. so I installed Linux.." :) Seeems to be a TRUE statement. In time it certainly won't ==False. :)
