Hey Matt Long time no chat, i just got back now, im on a different motherboard, ram, psu.
Heres My HW

ECS L4VXA2(Supports HT CPUs, VIA Chipset VT8754 North Bridge VT8235 South Bridge)
300 Watt Antec PSU
Mushkin PC 2700 DDR 512 MB
ATI All In Wonder 9700 PRO(Only Card I Got)
Windows XP Professional Build 5.1.2600.41(AKA Hacked Version)

Just Testing this Hardware to see if it makes any difference(going to see if AGP 8x works)
I also found out this board has some support for PC3200 DDR (Said to support 12 Gigs Total in manual)
Hopefully this stuff works

AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ (133x14= 1867MHz) (209x11= 2299MHz)
DFI LP NF2 Ultra-B (Hellfire 3EG Rev2)

hey man, dig the rig......have you tried the video capture on that card?
Just curious on how well it works for burning home vids to dvd. My family is buggin me to build a dvdr rig so my giant my come tumbling down for a more practical setup...hehe.

UPDATE-IT WAS PARTLY MY ATI AIW 9700 PRO

So, I posted earlier that my problem turned out to be a non-spinning fan on my cpu heatsink causing my cpu to eventually overheat.

Well, this was fixed and I still wound up having problems. In Jedi Knight II or Unreal Tournament the system would just crap out on me.

I upped the voltage on my AGP port from the "normal" 1.5 volts setting to 1.7 volts (via my BIOS settings) and disabled fast writes (via the ATI Smart Gart feature) but kept AGP at 8x.

So far so good. I played three multiplayer matches on my system (with it as the server and with bots) without any crashes (before I could maybe get through one before it chickened out and died on me).

Hope this helps those still having trouble!

hey matt, just found out my drivers didnt install correctly so i have to install em again (luckily i created restore point before driver install and DX 9b install) But any ways that is the card i have always had, its same chip and ram just with additional features,(Would be good gaming card if can get AGP 8x runnin) But this is just a test system to see if this board will work with this card fully, for some reason i cant overclock the system or when starting up after saving settings in bios, the monitor wont start up, meaning that cant overclock this sucker, May be the CPU bus jumper has to be set to AUTO and not 533 (i think thats locking the FSB),(Thats where i like ASUS almost everything can be set in bios and system boots up to the POST even if there is an error.

Man id like to get the P4P800 Deluxe, Carlos said he hasnt had a problem with it at all.

Tiss why I love the amd/epox combo...hehe.

ah, how does that capture work on the 9700aiw? I just found out my family has a bunch of vhs they want burned to dvd so they will buy the dvdr if I do it......so Im wondering If i should just use a 9700/9800aiw or if I should skip it and get a seperate capture device?

Well If u get the retail version u can get all the manuals and connectors for it, im not sure about OEM myself, but one thing is for sure, make sure ur mobo has firewire ports or u will have to get a Firewire Port PCI Card, Recommendation is the All In Wonder 9800 Pro(its just like the Radeon 9800, revised over the 9700 Pro) My ASUS P4S8X sux anyhow as of this vid card, oh one thing, I cant seem to run Windows Update, i know about that blaster virus, already got that patch for windows.
Oh One More thing

AIW 9800 is 8X agp compatable, so if mobo has it use it and see if its stable. Id like to OVC this system but dont want to have system not boot fully, (Monitor or vid card doesnt boot after overclocking or changing a setting to manual in BIOS)

lol...my 9800pro 256 is flawless as heck even at 510/405.....then again my 9700pros were always great too, never giving me probelms unless i was trying to simulate someone elses to come up with answers for them. So I assume you have not tried the video capture on your card?

i havent but i think it may be good, due to fact when u buy Retail, i think u get Pinnacle Studio 8 or what ever.

(Too Bad there isnt mobos out that have 2 agp slots on them that would be cool)

Well Found this out, i do think my vid card is a lemon, luckily its under warranty, i havent done anything to it as of overclocking or anything like that, i just tried disabling Fast Writes, and Cache Mode, AGP Apature back to 64, SMARTGART set to Fast Writes off, AGP mode set to 8X in both, AGP Voltage to max, i do think its my vid card and or mobo now, im going to sell them both if i need to and just get a ASUS P4P800 Deluxe and a ATI Radeon 9800 128, ive tried everything, this is with old mobo, as of the ECS board i started seeing the same Bullshit Happening, Im Getting Fed up with this.

Hey guys i sort of have a problem thats kinda hard to sort out ..
My Crucail Ati 9700 is out performed by my old gforce 4 ti4200 :S
In quake 3 arena benchmark demo FOUR

My ati 9700 gets 168 fps max detial 1260 x 1024 res
Geforce 4 ti4200 175 fps max detial 1260 x1024 res

Now this is where it gets weird ..
3d mark 2001se
Ati 9700 14032
Geforce 4ti4200 8000
Now correct me if im wrong but isnt the ati card now wupping the nvidia card ok i know the ati card is primarily built for use with Directx but shouldnt it out perform the Nvidia card in opengl applications too even if only by a small amount ??
According to Hardopc's site he is using my motherboard and my gfx card with a slightly faster cpu and is getting 280+ fps!
Where as im getting 168!!! wtf ?? *cough* only a difference of 110 fps!!

My pc specs are as follows

Mobo = Asus A7n8x deluxe latest chipset drivers and bios

Gfx card = Crucial Ati 9700 pro latest cat drivers

Mem = 512meg Crucial DDR 400 running at 266 due to my cpu not supporting the higher fsb :(

Cpu = Amd Athalon xp 2.2 ghz fsb 266

Sound = card Creative audigy 2

Os = windows xp pro - all service packs and updates

The Ati card is Running with Agp fast write on 8x agp on no problems at all with crashes ever or lock ups its just soooo damn slow ..

Ive emailed Crucail about the problem just waiting for an email ..
Also has anyone noticed their ati cards get extremly hot ? ( like burn ur hand on the mem sims hot? )

This is the report i sent Crucail anyone see any problems in my setup in this??

>> Re: ATI Radeon 9700

Problem Description: *

Poor frame rates in games ive checked everything else out motherboard drivers
bios updates etc .

For instance all the read ups ive seen says my card should be getting 260+ fps
In Quake 3 arena, but im getting 160 fps max where as my old geforce card gets 180 fps

Nothing seems to fix the problem i even tryed the card in 3 other machines but
made no difference which leaves me to believe the card is defective ..

Even my old graphics card Nvidia geforce 4 ti4200 out performs this graphics
card which cost me half the price this card did ..

Please help ..

Regards Jay

poor performance with no real problems is likely a corruption of drivers somewhere. Try uninstalling the drivers and control panel...then uninstall the agp controller on the mobo.
Reinstallation should be in the order of agp controller, ati driver, then control panel.
As for hard ocp's claims to a 280fps....they may have set the sliders for max performance in the open gl tab under the control panel. You claim that your ti4200 is faster but how does it look next to the 9700pro in terms of rendered image quality? Remember that default settings in open gl for the 9700pro are not optimized for performance but a balance between looks and performance.

u will see better FPS ratings usually but not in the Benchmarks(benchmarks dont read them right) Also on the Motherboard BIOS set the AGP Apature to 128 or 256 if it remains stable under those. ALSO one more thing dont post such damn long mesages. yeesh!

hehe Yeah sorry about the post length didnt mean to post it twice :S lol

I am using gfx apture size 256meg and i also recently reinstalled windows, installing the agp chipset drivers etc first then the gfx card drivers then the control pannel still no joy :(

Ive heard from a friend that there is a quality control setting in winxp pro that locks the frame rate on some applications not sure if this is true or not looking for any info on it now ..

I think he may be right because get this ..

If i run quake 3 benchmark ( Demo Four ) in say full detail 1260 x 1024 i get 176 fps
now if i run the same benchmark in super low detial at 360x240 i get 176- 178 fps :S

So that said it seems like there may be some sort of limit on the frame rate .. in xp or quake 3 arena ..

But the confusing thing is the geforce4 ti4200 can get 180 - 190 fps :S
very strange ..

No matter what I try I am still having the infinite loop issues with the Radeon 9800. Here is my system specs:

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (BIOS NEW VERSION)
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
1GB PC3200 DDR (Set dual channel)
460W Enermax PS
ATI Radeon 9800 (Omega Drivers)

This is what I have tried.

-Regular ATI Drivers
-Disabled FastWrite
-Increased AGP voltage from 1.5V to 1.6V
-Underclocked system FSB
-Underclocked processor
-Tried windows 2000 and windows xp. (All service packs and updates)
-Checked MoBo and CPU temps
-Tried both ASUS A7V8X and A7N8X
-Disabled FSB Spectrum

While running Windows 2k I just get 2 pc speaker beeps and then the system freezes, no blue screens no error messages.

While running Windows XP, I get a "Windows has covered from a device driver error. The device atidiag...," accompanied by an Infinie loop problem in the error log. Anyone have any more ideas? If not, does anyone know of any motherboards that this Ininite Loop bug doest effect? I would like a really good nForce 2 mobo. I checked toms but Im not sure which of those suffer from the infinite loop problem.

Sounds like that ol' heat problem again that the 9700's had, get a new heatsink like a Zalman ZM80A-HP or a GPU heatsink with a fan I think Crystal make some?

Or to cut costs try Artic ceramique, made a whole lot of difference to my GPU and CPU temp, lost about six to eight degrees off of the old temperature I used to get.

See bio for system setup.

New problem with my Ati 9700 pro
The problem is pritty straight forward i recently upgraded the drivers from cat 3.6 to cat 3.7 and now my games seem to lock for like a milly second hardly even noticeable but damn, its giving me major headaches :S
Even the desktop seems like its running at a low refresh rate (flickering) and is also givin me headaches was fine until i updated the drivers ..
My refresh rate is 75 atm

anyone else noticed this ?? or is my brand new monitor or gfx card shagged ?

Ive just backdated the drivers but for some reason dosnt seem any better :S

Thanx
