Does anyone know why after I update my video driver and control panel from the ATI site that my monitor will no longer shut off when I have it set to after 25 minutes? This has happened twice now and I know that it will work if I run a repair of windows xp, but I'd really rather not have to do that every time I update my driver. Any help would be great.

Well, the problem I've run into with trying to find an updated driver, or even my original driver for my mobo is that I've got a Dell Dimension 8200 and apparently it is one of the hardest things on earth to actually find out what the model of the mobo is. I've looked and looked and got this much: Dell DIMENSION 8200 MOTHERBOARD 40NS RAM 7G535. I don't know if it's the full model name or what. Thanks.

They do. Just not very helpful at times. :)
(Sorta like M$ if they have to follow a book and it isn't in there; forget about it. :)

Oh they do.... if you want to take a long time letting them go through a bunch of crap that hardly ever works and then they eventually just tell you to reinstall windows. When it comes to stuff like this, they need to study up a little more. That's why I posted something here since a lot of people who know more post replies on here. However, sarcastic comments with no real helpful information are really just a waste of my time and yours. Have a good day.

Brandon is right....as much as I despise Dell for making so difficult for small buisinesses to keep afloat, they do have really good service. I have a friend that is beyond wealthy since he designed the machinery that sits in the dresdon factory (pysor inc.) and even though he can get any cpu he wants so cheaply he still buys dell. Why? Cause he has had them out there on 5 different occasions to repair a system that he clearly messed up free of charge.....to top it off that was just a $499 model:-) guess who lost money on that one?

Oh I'm not knocking their availability or service effort. The only problem is that one two occasions, I've had to find out the answers to problems on my computer through other channels besides Dell because their tech support had no clue how to fix them. They have their little books and that's about it. But as far as service and support effort go, they're great, and the computers are good and cheap. I'm just saying that when the issue gets really technical beyond "Why can't I hear sounds" or something like that, I've had a difficult time getting any real assistance from them besides eventually being told to either reinstall windows or reformat it. That's my only problem with them, but they are always there to try to help when you need them. Gosh... they ought to owe some money for free advertising on this site. But hey Matt, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I found out my mobo model and installed an updated driver and it works fine now. Thanks.

Okay, here we go.

I've custom-built a PC this past month (ASUS P4P800 Deluxe, P4 2.6 GHz HT, 80GB WD, 512 Crucial RAM, SB Audigy 2, ATI 9700 Pro). I've been buying bits and pieces, and the ATI was one of the first. On my old rig (P3 700 MHz, etc.) nil problems, but most demanding game was Halo. Now, I have Raven Shield, Unreal Tournament 2003, and others, and it locks up almost every time. I've contacted ATI (by e-mail, and got back a list of links no doubt slapped together using a text parser) and got no help. I've got latest Catalyst drivers for Win XP Pro and I'm out of options (and totally frustrated).

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Arek Hall did u happen to install Service Pack 1 from Windows Update and then get the other updates following that? u should have, also u should install Latest Mobo Drivers(AGP,LAN,IDE,{SATA if enabled}) then Direct X 9.0b, then install latest drivers for vid card then latest drivers for sound. Also u should look for latest BIOS release for that motherboard.
