I think it's a little on the slow side now, persoanly I wouldn't buy anything below a 2500xp, scince there pretty cheap as it is. You wouldn't save much buy going for a slower CPU.

I agree with Richard. There's no reason to buy anything below a 2500+ as they are cheap as heck anyways.

Why would you put up a thread based on a "urge" you have...what a waste.

>> Re: AMD Athlon 1700
They havn't stoped making Athlons yet, but they are brining in the Semprons to phase out the Athlons. Mainly cos of the switch to the 754/939 platforms. The Semprons will be made as 754s the Athlons won't.

This is a shame, but also a good excuse to get a 64bit CPU, scince I wouldn't be seen dead with a Sempron ;);)

So Supreet...

Little jealous that this hefty little MX440 can do 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT? And it only cost me $20.

Hehe.

Hehe. Currently replacing the thermal paste (my friend was checking out the pimp black thermalpaste on it and scratched it with his finger... freaking moron) on the new ThermalTake Slim Volcano 8 heatsink.... for *upto* Athlon XP 2800+.

Man this is so much fun. Seriously... go to eBay.com and find some 1700+ & mobo combos for like... $30 w/ shipping included.

Some people are stupid enough (or just have enough money) to do this with newer PCs.... but I will only test my overclocking abilities on a piece of junk which makes me realize how awesome last generation technology really was.

I always thought... "Only a gig of ram? WTF?? I need 2 gigs or else this won't work!!!!". Now I'm running 512mb and it runs like a charm. **Note... running Win2k**

Kind Regards,
Miles

I understand what you're saying, but if you really want a Processor with amazing overclocking potential, you should try and find Mobile Athlon XP 2400+, 2500+ or 2600+. Get a NForce2 Ultra 400 chipset based Motherboard (preferbly DFI "Ultra B" or Asus A7N), and believe me, you'll love it :)

Nah. My friend has that. Boy... he has alotta fun.

But my 1700+ is cool too. Put too much thermal paste on. Getting 60 C temps. Crapola.
