  AGP / Bios problems...
 Date Written
Derrick C Sep 20, 2001, 02:07pm EDT Report Abuse
I am having SERIOUS problems getting my system up and running with this MB. Where to start...

First off, if I install the AGP vxd driver for this board, including the updated one from the ECS website, I can not get my ATI RADEON 64Mb video card to work properly. Even using the newest drivers from ATI leaves me with a blank screen when windows starts up.

Second, while trying to update my BIOS using the flash program included, I get a "Chipset/Flash part isn't available. The function will be invalid" message, while the newer version from ECS gives me an "Error 2 - File not found" message. Even though I can find no evidence of a Flash protection Jumper or option in the bios.

Third, I see talk of various availabel bus speeds of 100, 112, 124, 133, 138, 150 and 166 MHz. However, the only options listed in my BIOS are 100 or 133.

Did I get a bad board or something ?

I *HATE* when this happens. It's like you're doing their quality control testing for them!

~ The manual said "Requires Windows '95 or better" I installed Linux!

For the BIOS probs, go to
and download the 'aminf326.exe' file. It's the working flash utility.
you also get the latest BIOS, release Sept. 24th.

I was wondering about the bus settings myself...and i still don't know why there are certain reviews that talk about other FSB settings.

Your AGP probs might get fixed by updating your BIOS.
If not, try to set AGP rate to 2x in your BIOS.
Some reviews already mentioned an AGP problem saying that decreasing to 2x strangly _won't_ reduce performance but will fix probs.
If it still doesn't work, try to set AGP window to a lower value in your BIOS.

Ok. I got it all sorted out.

The advanced FSB options seem to be available only through UN-official Bios updates.

And my AGP port driver problem went away with the latest AGP controller driver from the SIS website. (agp10701t.exe)

ECS only have version 106 on their site... nice eh.

I would love to know how derrick got his bios functioning...problem is he is the only one I have access to that has had this problem, and he's not replying to my question. If anyone else has had the same problems PLEASE send me a solution. I have almost had enough and am going to send the board back and buy something else.

To flash update K7S5A with SiS 735 Chipset with AMIBIOS:

Copy utility off ecs site called aminf329.exe and the latest update to a floppy.
Update is in a winzip self extracting file. Extract to floppy.
You should have on floppy, aminf329.exe and a file with .rom extrension.

Boot to DOS and run this command:

a:\aminf329.exe (update file name here).rom

Make sure there is space between the 2 files.

That should help your problem. Also, make sure you have a power supply that will support that AMD processor. What type of RAM you using? Also, make sure your CPU fan is rated for that processor too.

I have the same problem as you had!
Where did you download the agp10701t.exe file from?

Follow the link below. This may be the most comprehensive set of information I've seen yet for this motherboard. It includes links to the latest drivers and BIOS utilities.

Let me know if you still can't find what you're looking for there.

Good luck!

Hi, I've been having the same problems with the k7s5a.

I havent been able to keep it stable at 133/133, ive had to set it to 100/133. My 1.2 is now running at 900Mhz.

I have the aminf329.exe and the 011215L.ROM file but i cant get it to flash the bios.

It says it is complete but when i reboot i get several CMOS errors.

It gives me the option to fit F1 and run the setup and then im back at the old BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas???

Derrick Where did you get the unofficial bios update?

Try the site I listed in my last post. At last check they had a number of different BIOS revisions available there as well as suggestions on best practices for doing the flash.
