GEN that was a good deal,I see you are still running.I have sent a big number of people to this site to set theirs up just like yours and told them that if it did`nt work after copying from you trade it in. I saw a post the other day that said they got the same deal for $89.oo hard for me to believe .If it is so you could buy it just for the CPU that cheap ,if I see it again I will post it here.I also have told others to contact you to get info on this mobo ? You should be a big help to others. Thanks

Thank you!! :)
the fan on the side of the case its so.. ugh.. cold..
since the PC is on top of the desk right now.. the air is cold and my bones ache.. so i guess it does keep it cold..
DO you know the OPTIMAL operational temperature for the P4 2.4@533FSB ?
what about the max temperature it will take from overheating before it burns out!?

yes, the mobo bios's does report all that info.. but what good is it? I dont know what is the max nor the ideal or recommended.. and no one seems to have volunteered that info off any web site I could find.
Thanks
Gen.
P.S. hey.. it is ok if some contact me,, my pleasure to help.

You're right Roy. Buy the CPU Mobo special and throw the board away! They still have it (I'm lookin at 2days ad right now) P4VXASD2+ & P4 2.4GHZ Bare CPU $159. Actually now that I see the add, they have that Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM UDMA/133 Hard drive (the special edition one with the 8MB buffer) for $69 after $30 rebate. I'm gonna go buy it right now! SEE YA....................!

After reading ALL of the post for this mobo, I finally got mine to run. I bought the Frye's bundle when it was a P4 1.8 ghz buy for $159.99. Fro about three weeks now, I have had hell with this board.

I finally got all the jumpers set and the BIOS; it still took me five times to finally get WIN 98 SE on the system. Once up and running it ran great. I decided to replacve WIN 98 SE with the XP Upgrade and after five tries it gets all the way to the final step, at 15% complete it locks up and will not complete the install.

Anyone know that the trick is for this?

I have the following besides the mobo and processor:
Set to run at 100 - CANNOT get it to run at 133, have not done the flash yet!
CD-RW 52x24x52
DVD RW+CD RW - TDK
3.5 " Floppy
80 Gig IBM IDE hard drive
1.6 Gig Western Digital Hard Drive (used for temp storage and junky stuff)
G-Force PCI Card - 32 MB
384 Meg of PC100 / 133 SDRAM
I have not installed my modem yet and I have DISABLED the Ethernet LAN

Anything help or adives is appreciated.

Well, I just fired up my P4VXASD2+ on my first build, and it is running perfect. I used the bios that was built in. I did not update any drivers and the only problem I had was with the HD. I switched from cable select to master and it worked fine after that. Setting up the AMIBIOS setup and STANDARD CMOS SETUP, the secondary master slave settings didn't work when I manually listed them as CD-Rom and DVD rom, so I put them back on AUTO. Other than that and the WinXP slow load (typical XP behavior!) it's purring like a kitten. And anybody that knows me and was laughing about my 8 fans (2 front intake filtered, 2 rear exhaust, 1 side exhaust, 1 CPU, and 2 power supply fans,) heres the temperature data; Power Supply 33C, System 25C, CPU 34C. I'm one happy camper right now!

hmmmm - was reading johny bravo's and richard ozer's comments about the chipset that is supposed to be on this board. I ran hwinfo32 and it shows M/B model ECS P4VXASD2+ M/B Chipset VIA VT8753 P4X266. Go figure ---- another strange one. I think ECS is just throwing the boards together wiyh whatever they have on hand.

Dwight, mine is a VT8235. They also have them with VT8233, but those dont have the USB 2.0 or the LAN onboard. I can't tell you anything about the 8753. My BIOS is from 11/02 so the board is almost 1/2 year old, so yours must be newer? Roy, go to bed it's late. <grin> its a P4A 1.8 and its a 400MHZ FSB. Don't tell Ray, he'll want to talk me into overclocking lol!

well I dont know what I did wrong but my system is finally up and running (p4vxasd2+, 2.4 ghz, 1gig pc133 sdram. Heheh.....only thing is---- my puters guts are all sitting out on my file cabinet, at this point I'm almost afraid to put everything back in the case. One word of caution guys.... make very sure that your board is not tweaked (ie: twisted or in the least little bit of a bind...that will cause memory, video and any other cards to not be found when booting up. That was my problem anyway, board was only twisted about 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch close to the cmos batt.

This might be a redundant question, but..

-- What is the maker and model of your motherboard? ... if you know the maker and the model, what "version" or "revision" of that particular model, from that particular maker is it?

example:
MAKER: ECS (Especially Crappy Stuff, by someone's post up above the line)
MODEL: P4ABCDEF123QWERTY+
Rev: 5.0

ok...
now..
if you go this website:

http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/p4vxasd2_5x.html

(you could double click on the link .. open in a new window, or if you cannot click or cannot see the hyperlink then you can copy and paste, either by selecting with your mouse pointer, or by using the keyboard shortcuts [for help press F1]) and paste it of your favorite web browsers address box and then press enter or click "go" or the required command on your specific software).

If you cannot access the site check the URL's spelling. or go to
http://www.ecsusa.com
e c s u s a
and click on "download", select your series, model numer and find revision.

This should be all you need to find the file you need.
wait.. this IS all you need. If you have any questions just write back and we shall be of help.

As an added bonus, and thanks to the fact it isnt busy at work and I am in overclock mode..
On this page its all you need on how to use the flashAMI thing, step by step.

http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/flashAMI.html

You have flashed a BIOS before, right?

Cheers,
Gen

Weird.. your last name got censored when typed on the subject of the message on a previous posting.
--- just trivia

Yes, I read your BIOS version is so-and-so.
but whats the version/revision of your Motherboard?

God Almighty may give me long life and riches if I am wrong, but on the ECS web site (because you do have an ECS motherboard, right?), asks for your mobo model and then it wants you to know what revision number you got? (If you have read my previous posting and followed through you would know that the revision of your motherboard is printer on the board... It took me a couple days to notice/find it..., but I am dumb).

Once you have the revision number, corresponding to the right model number you can download the specific one from the url I have given you before.
Short of actually dropping by and having the files on disk and me flashing your BIOS personally I think I have it all covered and you should be able right now to flash it, thrash it or fry it. :)
Love,
Gen.

>> BIOS-- GENERAL QUESTION
All right.. my turn to ask a question now :) A real question, I appreciate your time and thoughts while you ponder what to type :)
Thank you guys and have a great morning! --!
Gen.
--
go here:
http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/p4vxasd2_5x.html
then..
you see there are five different BIOS' modules.
but the five of them have different "notes" and were released at "different dates" and they are "all" available, and they all are for the "same" motherboard model/revision.
If I flash my BIOS (I think my ECS mobo has a BIOS 021101) with the latest BIOS 030310, would that BOIS have all the fixes/improvements each one of the previous ones list on their notes?

I guess it makes sense to assume that each new BIOS has something new and it includes all the accumulated improvements that it has gathered over time.

but only makes sense.. I cannot tell.
What do you think?

I won't be at home all day but where would I look for it? The website suggested it was pringed by the agp slot but alas no I'm still in wonderland..... BTW.... the last name always gets caught in the crap machine on these things

If trust strangers on a website you must, then download this:

http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/bios/p4vxasd2p_030310.exe

and proceed to flash your AMI BIOS, following this instructions and download and use the Flash Utility that is provided on the site, just to make sure, yours could've some STD or something.

http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/flashAMI.html

I've flashed many...
BIOS' of course. Very easy process, just follow the instructions step by step. Once you are familiar with the process and have flashed many times with no problems then you can develop your own ways to flash Amy.
for all i know.. she might like it.
Sayoonara!
Gen
P.S. your revision/version is number 5
Your model is the P4VXASD2..do you remember if it has a "+" or not at the end? I think thats very important..
so before you flash anyone make sure to get back to us with the info, is it P4VXASD2 or P4VXASD2+?
Thanks! :)
