The CD that came with the board has files for every diff chip set ECS puts on this board. Not all of the drivers are installed after the auto install. For instance VT8235 auto installs the chip drivers, but not for the LAN or USB 2.0. You have to find and load manually. Also read the doc in each file cause some are only compatable with certain OSs'. There is also the "Award Flash Memory Utility" and "WinFlash Utility" on the CD. Award lets you erase the bios, and copy a new version to the chip. The WinFlash lets you flash the bios from a window. Mine is still running purrfect on day 3. I wonder if it is because I used PC2700 memory? This is my 1st build and I was wondering, do all manufacturers include set up CDs which cover more than what is specific to your board (aside from bundled stuff)?

This is kind of off the main topic here, but is anyone having problems with the mobo rebooting while playing any games or running any graphics-intensive software (ie Macromedia Flash, etc)? I've had all of the above-related problems (BIOS-update-of-death--which I still haven't gotten to work, etc), and have conquered (sort of) all of them. Then, just when I thought it was safe to fire up Blackhawk Down--and later Macromedia Flash--(insert Jaws music) KABOOM. Reboot, scan hard drives (I'm running XP pro), all seems well.

I thought this was just an odd, one-time thing. Windows likes to crash, but not this often. Games crash every now and then, but not this often (usually about 15 minutes into a game or Flash, or Adobe Photoshop, ye-olde reboot occurs).

Other than that, the board seems okay. This is a fresh XP Pro install (which I have since done three times). I've reinstalled all of the software that seems to "cause" the crashes.

Windows XP Professional w/Service Pack 1
ECS P4VXASD2+
512MB RAM (2x256 PNY)
NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 64 MB
DirectX 9.0a
Default System BIOS
Using default sound and NIC
IBM HD x 2 (40 gb apiece)
Sony CD/RW
450 Watt PS (P4/Athlon approved, don't remember name brand)
2 case fans, Thermaltake Volcano T7 (P4 approved up to 3ghz) CPU fan w/copper heatsink
. . .three French Hens, two turtledoves . . .

This is the best hardware posting site I've ever seen! Thanks for all of the above help on the other problems.

I had that problem for a while after 1st start up. It was from the Nvidea NView Desk top manager. Do you have that? If so go to the themes tab and set it for Generic.

Thanks Payton, also does any one have the p4vxasd2+ ver 5.0 board that actually has the p4x333 chipset and what software did you use to find this out.

I have that mobo (+, v5). HWiNFO32 says P4X266, AIDA32 says P4X333 but it can't be P4X333 because it supports AGP8X but THAT mobo has 4X. I guess that NB is P4X266E and SB is taken from P4X333 i.e. VT8235. That confuses diagnostic programs. What made me think so ? You see, board has 6 USB2.0 ports but only AGP4X support .... Moreover I have found some online stores that state that P4VXASD2+ is P4X266E. P4X266E is a refurbished P4X266A and supports 533FSB and allows using SB from P4X333.

Thats what I get also johny (hwinfo32 and aida32) god what a POS m/b. I also discovered that even tho I have the cmos configed for AGP 4x, aida says I'm only running in AGP 2x. Another damn problem to try and figure out. I wonder how hard it would be to get ECS to take this m/b back and send me a different board.

Dwight: I can enable AGPX4 and I think you can too :-) Usually when diagnostic programs reports that AGP is 2X it means that its currently set up to that rate. Some gfx drivers can do that, also (I don't know what gfx you have) it may be limits of your gfx card.

So, Dwight, does SMARTGART feature of catalyst drivers allow you to choose AGP4X?

>> no audio
remembe the audio lil'problem i have had with my mobo?
well.. i unplugged all front audio connectors.. hoping the audio jacks on the back would work.
nop.
i am not the only one.
read on
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Miscellaneous/Q_20575246.html
so the audio will work if I plug a jack directly onto the extra connectors on the motherboard (designed for the front).
the ones in the back do not work at all.
Iwill try a few tricks i heard about then I will consider it gone.
and put a real audio card in it.. or just have my friend, who will get this pc as his bday gift.. use the front and be done with it.
of course.. i will not buy ECS again.

if anyone has a fix for this problem let me know.
