i was bored so i started thinking about the presscots design and there longer pipeline archietecture. As im overclocking my athlon i run all the benchmarking software i notice although at first when im overclocking the gains are massive however as the clock speed is increased the performance gains are minimal. For example when i take it up the first 200mhz th speed is amazing then when i take it up another 200mhz its not bad but after that it only gets smaller increases in points (anyone else noticed this). However i was messing around on a presscot machine im building for multimedia and i decided too crank it up this seems too work the exact opposite to the amd first 400mhz overclock it bearly seems too get faster however when you get past 3.8ghz it seems too double and then triple its speed and in all the benchmarking software it was flogging the crap out of my 64 by almost 1000 in pcmark 2004 and this is at 4ghz Why is this happening all im thinking is the intel gets better tick per clock as it gets higher could be wrong though.

Such is the strange nature of the Prescott.

It might have something to do with the pipelining, yes, but I'm thinking it's more dependent on the timing of the transistors. Maybe Intel used different transistor methods than usual on it.

We might not ever know for sure. See if TomsHardware has anything on the subject.

How was your temps with the Athlon? Temps make a real difference.

I havent noticed anything like that with my Athlon 1800+, Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.50GHz, Athlon XP-M 2500+ @ 2.50GHz & Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.20GHz, 2.30GHz, 2.40GHz, 2.50GHz, 2.60GHz & 2.70GHz.

Just pure performace on every OC I do.

em ok temps here goes at stock temps 29c idle and 34c load at 2.4ghz temps go up 1c on both, 2.6ghz ive had too change volatage settings too 1.6v and temps idle are 34c and load is 41c at 3.0ghz its another 1c on top of that its 35/36 idle and 42c load thats on a koolance exos cooling system also its not the aluminium one its the black en. I must have 1 lucky athlon as everyone else only gets 2.6ghz max :P ace

If you are getting 3.00GHz, then you have a good 90nm CPU. I can't get over the 2.70GHz without having any stability Problems. Like I said before, I think I need more Vcore. 1.70v Max is not enough.
