A few weeks ago, my laptop started to act up and I think the port were the power cord plugs into the laptop is broken. I have obtained a new power adapor from work, and the unit will still not power on. I know that the port were the cord plugged into has been getting lose and if the cored was not just sitting in there right, the laptop would swithch to batterie. Does anyone know if the port on the motherbard where the AC power cord pluggs into can be replaced? I am having difficulty finding a laptop service depot in Calgary Alberta, where I live. Any suggestions?

Regards,
Jeff

hello, i am having same problem with sony vaio laptop. from everything i have read, this seems to be a common problem, because of pluging and unpluging these laptops. the dc connector replacement is my problem too. i am toying with the idea of soldering a new one on my board, just have to get everything together and get more info....good luck on finding someone to do it.....and even then they may not guarantee no damage to main board. at least i found a source for mthrboards and can live with the price if this goes south..do some reading on this site and you will find some professional help that you could mail to....that is an individual thing about giving your computer to someone else to fix.....good luck victoria

Yes, it is a common problem where the center post breaks. You may be able to bend them inside to temporary restore power. The jack can be replaced without too great of cost, definitely a lot cheaper than a new board. I can do that repair for you or can refer you to someone else - like http://www.ikenfixit.com. There are a few others if you want, just search the boards.

My Compaq is having this same problem, but I am trying to fix it on my own. Does anyone know of a place I can buy a new connector from? I was thinking Newark Electronics or Mouser, but I don't even know where to find it on those sites. It would be even better if I could get it from Radio Shack or something, so I don't have to pay loads of shipping for just 1 connector. Thanks.

If you want to find it quickly, search ebay. There are a couple companies that flood the listings with them. Good luck.

Thanks. I finally found them on Mouser. They were $.38 each. The shipping is what killed me.
