My friend's trying to sell his 3.2C Northwood CPU right now and he's selling it for only $205 whereas most retail go for about $260. But then again, we're in Boston, MA and you're in the Philipines. Ummmm... If you can find any, I'd try s478 2.8c or s478 3.0c Northwood Chips. You can try the 2.8E and the 3.0E prescotts but they do tend to run really really hot whether its the s478 or sLGA775. They should all be around that area of $200.
I personally tried the ASRock P4V88 Via Chipset motherboard and I thought it was just great and they only for $50 here in the states. So if you don't plan to overclock or anything then I'd recommend that motherboard. If however, you want to spend all your $100 go for the ASUS P4P800SE Motherboard which has i865 chipset. That too is very nice.

Here is a LINK.
You be the judge on which Intel CPU you want.
But I tell you that anything less than 3.60GHz is not the greatest in gaming. You will lose at least 35 FPS or so.

And if price is your problem then get yourself an Athlon 64 3000+ w/ an nForce 4 Ultra mobo which performs quite amazing in Games & beats any Intel system in Price/Performance.

With the Athlon 64 3000+ you will be ready for the 64-Bit patches coming out for HL-2, Far Cry, DOOM 3 & many other games in April 2005.

I think some people just don't understand, AMD is for gaming and better overall performance, Intel is for multi-tasking and stuff like that.

you can light that J with it too, runs so bloddy hot.

I guess the best CPU would be the FX55, intel wise it'd be the expensive P4 Extreme Edition 3.73 (1066FSB). The FX57 will appear in a while.
$200 would get you a P4 2.8GHz 800FSB (I think)

Well, if he want an Intel Gaming CPU, that $200 will get him a crappy Celeron CPU & he will most likely regret it. And you need to get minimum Intel 3.20GHz P4 CPU even though AMD's Sempron 3100+ @ 1.80GHz out performs it in games by far @ half the cost.

You are better off getting a Sempron 3100+ Socket 754 for $120usd or a faster Athlon 64 3200+ for $190usd. All depends where you shop.

em no super xp semprons are absoloute crap i had one waste of money if u ask me sure they play games ok but u have to be running no background apps otherwise the slowdown will kill you. The 3.2ghz p4 northwood is great for gaming or just get a 2.8ghz northwood and overclock it i recommend a p4c800 deluxe or a abit ic7 max 3 for optimal performance in motherboards. couple that with a great gfx card and a nice fast hard drive and maybe 2/4 sticks of high quality memory it will be great for any games. I do not believe that a 3.2ghz cpu is going to slowdown the graphics card. There will always be one part that slows down another its almost impossible to make it perfect. The biggest part of a gaming machine would have to be the gfx card so really as long as the cpu can handle the graphics card that you put in you will be able to play the games at very high settings. My perfect choice if i was building a intel gaming system would be a 2.8ghz northwood, abit ic7max 3, 4 x 256mb either ocz or mushkin or kinston hyper x ddr400 or above, a 6800gt or a 6600gt depending on budget and a ocz 420 watt psu, wester digital raptor hd brilliant system and really not that expensive when u think what you are getting. :) hope that helps

so if you think that the Sempron is crappy , then what do you have to say for the Athlon XP processors, cause that's exactly what the Sempron is.
and the A XP processors were the competetors for the original line up of P4s.
i dont think there is anything lousy about Sempron, and what kinda junk do you have running in the backround in order to slow down your PC's potential for gaming? cause i never had that problem

and going for a Celeron is like getting a Duron for gaming.

so with that said, everyone has their low budget line and performance line.

both INTEL and AMD have those, so just pick one. lol

Well to directly answer your question on intel CPU?

basically best for gaming is the most expensive Pentium 4 (NORTHWOOD) you can get thats *SOCKET 478* with DDR 1 and AVOID the prescott core

otherwise CELERON D has been found to outperform certain pentium 4 precotts of similar price....

northwood and celeron D arnt that bad for gaming....theyre not the best but theyre the best price performance gamin cpus intel has to offer

motherboard wise? try any MSI or ABIT board that supports the CPU i cant say exactly what cuz i dunno what you have available or where/how you plan to buy

thats to directly answer your q

Everyone now thinks that because the 64 bit AMD's are out that intel suck's and thats such bullshit.Super XP how do you figure if he doesn't get at least a 3.6 intel he will lose 35fps .What are you talking about the 478 P4 with 800 fsb is a better gaming CPU than a Barton.Ok yeah the 64 bit's are faster: .
. So a 64 bit 2.0 ghz cpu can hold or beat a 3.0ghz P4 so.The 3.0 is still a really good CPU.And OCed it's even better.Comparing 64 bit cpu's to 32 bit cpu's aint even fare..But im am so sick of every one here telling people that intel dont game worths**t.My 2.8 gets great FPS OCed or not .I have no problem getting playable frame rate's.Farcry when i let it picks all the highest setting for me to play at and it runs great.I turn the setting down for one reason and thats so i dont have the fish and birds flying all over the game. But dam stop bashing intel for christ sake.If some wants an intel that's fine. This is the one thing that i hate about this forum.God some of you are so biased.I guess that's why Sean B got banned because he wasnt an AMD fan boy.If someone ask's about intel them what they want to know then give them info on AMD without bashing intel. You can state you thought's with out bashing

We aren't biased, at least i'm not, I just go with whatever brand is faster in a certain price range, which my CPU price range is roughly around $200-400. I don't cheap on the CPU because I want a PC that I will not have to upgrade for a while and usually the $300 price range processors can be OC'ed to the highest speeds out.

Nah, tomie, Intel DOES NOT sucks, its just AMD which is slightly better than Intel. For the price/performance ratio definately AMD is best.

Intel:

Longer Pipelines (Thats why better at encording stuff)
Lesser IPC's
Still having FSB, Half Duplex
Having problems with heat
Lesser L1 Cache
Not Efficient Bandwidth

AMD:

Shorter Pipelines (Thats why better at games)
More IPC's
No FSB, HTT in place, Full Duplex, Low Latency Single (754) as well as Double Memory Controller (939)
No problems with heat
More L1 Cache
Efficient Bandwidth

So, if the difference is going to be like that, what would be ur choice?

I am saying NOT SAYING that Intel sucks, its just AMD which is better.

Price/Performance = AMD

I think its the onboard memory controller that does the trick.

Yeah, and AMD is far more efficient per clock, everyone knows this. Also, my Athlon 64 DOES have problems with heat when it is overclocked past 2.71Ghz. That's why I got watercooling. But even at 2.7 it's still way cooler than a stock 3.0ghz prescott
