I've read on the forums, and numerous other sites where people are using dual Athlon Xp's in a dual processor motherboard, instead of Athlon MP's. Is this possible?

Yes, you can run two Athlon XP's on a single motherboard. You will have to modify the bridges as described by the following article I found at http://www.hardwarezone.com (Modding the Athlon XP into an MP)

It describes in detail how to use an XP as an MP and tells which motherboard they used.

I am thinking about doing this rather than buying a new x2 or the Phenom. The motherboard is probably much cheaper and I just happen to have 2 XP's laying around.

The link below should take you to the article.

If you should try it let me know if it works, I'm really seriously thinking I should get atleast a 30% increase in performance which is about what I'd get out of an x2 setup.

ya just dont wire a CPU for being a MP with Mobility characteristics, since bios only detect so much at once, my machine doesnt detect the CPU as a Athlon XP when overclocked

I'm only telling ya what I read. The article said if you cut/build a bridge on the cpu the motherboard recognized it as an MP and ran. Did you read the article?

I didn't when I posted at first but I found out shortly after. I guess it seems to be open again, and the question is one I asked myself so I answered. If anyone wants to continue so be it.
