hey this guy i know had me rebuild his computer. i installed windows xp pro with sp2, and when you try to play a dvd in his dvd rom or dvd burner, it plays and everything but there is no sound to the movie. there is sound if you play the tour windows xp thing, and anything else that has sound. it just wont play the movie sounds. any idea what it could be? ive check to see if it was muted but that isnt the case, speakers are turned up and on, plugs in the back of the dvd rom and burner are pluged into the mobo, (there is no sound card, its intergrated sound).

any ideas guys.

if it's onboard sound....and it's new...then the motherboard HAD to have come with a driver cd...try installing the sound drivers from that

I'd say you don't have the right audio codec. In the past I've have the same issues with video and no sound, It turned out that I didn't have the right codec installed for the audio stream.

Which software are you using to playback the movie? MAybe the volume on that program is muted.
When you say it plays everything, do you mean the movie itself (video)? Can you play regular music cd and hear the music?

Life is too short, make the best of it!
