I have a barebones case that will accept a 3.06 p4 northwood w fsb of 533. The chip w/ht is going to cost $239.00 Am I better off with an amd motherboard bundle of comparable price with better speed for video editing?? I am finding direct comparisons between amd and intel to be difficult to find. (unbiased)Thanx..

3500+ AMD athlon 64 is like 219$ USD on newegg, its a fairly good CPU. The 3.06 P4 is probally slightly faster in video editing tasks. But the AMD is better with most games.

Well, I too would go for the Athlon 64 hands down. I do Video all the time with my system, and AMD has never let me down.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 3200+, 3500+ & 3700+ are what I highly recommend. And if you really want super fast Video Editing, than I would go for the Dual Core Athlon 64 X2 3800+. AMD is also coming out with lower versions like the Athlon 64 X2 3600+ & such I think :)

AMD is the better CPU.

amd is for gaming period but not everyone plays games like all you gaming nuts on here lol. So for video editing the p4 is the cpu of choice by far. The dual core p4's are faster than the x2's at video editing tooand are cheaper so if you want look into one of them :). but definatly the p4 3.06

Oh i see what your saying you already have the Intel motherboard. but you would have to get a motherboard and CPU if you went AMD. So just stick with what you have and get the P4 3.06
