I didnt read threw the whole thing but, wow Supreet your like making a report there! lol
Looking at some benchmarks the X1800XT flatout kills the 7800GTX. But others it loses. Overall i will admit that the X1800XT seems like the better card as far as performance goes, and it should be since it came out 4 months later.
That was a damn good report on it Supreet. Well done It was a good read and had many good points, I can no wait 3 months from now when the x1800xt's true self will be shown with the appropriate drivers. it is going to give the 7800gtx a damn good show.
Supreet, I didn't read that whole thing, but I nominate you for having longest post on record;)

I LOVE IT.... the normal processor FX55 -57, would give better performance...
Well wouldnt they be the exsact same.. testing GPU's on a same spec PC will give the same performance results regardless of the processors it would only change the results in the same mannar to both equally..
10 Points for effort.. How much you getting paid...;)
Driver Optimizations?..certainly, you don't want to give credit where it's due? these results you are talking about is with fresh catalysts, and yet it shows like ATI already mastered D3D. Then again, why didn't Nvidia optimized their drivers for 7800GTX for better results in 3D Mark 05'?....yes they've been doing some clever things by giving support for Dual Core processors, with their Rel-80 drivers, initially after the release of X1800XT....hmm.
Bottom line, is X1800XT has the edge, a chip which is capable to give 9000+ 3D Mark, deserves an applaud, not dissing. It is late, but then again, its almost 1,500 points better than 7800GTX.
- Improved Core
- Tons of features, including Avivo, HDR with AA & 3Dc+
- Awesome D3D performance
- Great Image Quality
- Dual Link TMDS Reciever (no refresh rate bottleneck on CrossFire later)
- Better 3D Mark 05' scores
- Weak OpenGL optmizations
- Driver's needs improvement (No support for Dual Core Processors)
- Power hungry
- Good Core
- Great OpenGL optimizations
- Good Driver support
- Not Power Hogger
- Weaker D3D optimizations
- Reasonably good Image Quality
- Lacks in some new features
That's the summary, and looking forward to R580 & G80 now.
yeah...i think it is very very impressive that the drivers were optimized to get a good score...but i didnt realize that the "good score" was supposed to be 9000+...all in all...thats a freaking awesome score...
Towlie: Wanna get high?
Cartman: NO!!! WE DO NOT WANT TO GET HIGH YOU STUPID TOWL!!
"that the drivers were optimized to get a good score"
- Mind reading more about X1800XT?, that's a sheer power of X1800XT with some good & clever techniques being used on it. Driver's alone cannot give you so high scores, kindly check the Memory Controller, Size and Response time on 7800GTX & X1800XT Memories also....OpenGL has been ATI weakness from quite time now, and Chris Hook also agreed on it yesterday. At the same time he also said that 95% of the games are being developed on D3D, and its true.
If it was driver's then Nvidia also could've improved the 3D Mark 05' scores by now. Jeez, lol..I am loling here now.
fx series whupped ass in the old 3dmark benches due to driver optimizations and are told off een though they told everyone it was an example to prove a point, ati does the same its called sheer engineering genius....what a world.....supreet i think you better start your own website now, im seeing too many forum members posting reviews, let alone 5 screen long articles on a graphics chip, man supreet game more and study what you game with less!
An xbox360 and a 12" iBook....
And a kawasaki er-6n to mod instead
Supreet, my friend, I will never understand you. Yes perhaps that is my short coming. But you are the one whose always saying price-perfmance this, price perfomance that.... so do you honestly believe that the X1800XT is worth the 100$+ extra?.
I think ATI have bungled on 2 accounts.
1) their new core is a manufacturing marvel (90nm with all those milllions of transistors is a feat).. but thats where it ends. As a perfomer in its field of application, its no where near what was expected
2)They slagged a perfectly good review , falsely claimed an ass whooping that never came.
I agree that the architecture looks great and everything, but tell me honestly... does it matter to you as a gamer?. Will you be happier owning a chip with half a dozen innovations or one thats old design but tweaked to perform well?. There may be good points for the future. But ATI have lost this one. The end prouct is for all practical purposes overpriced. Its pricing is ludicrous and it didnt live up to the hype.
Having said that,ATI can most definitely build on this.Just cause an older architecture is as good as their newest doesnt necessarily mean that they have been buried..... like the 2004 Ferrari which was infact the 2003 Ferrari with some tweaks.. but it kicked every new model on the track. However the 2005 Ferrari turned out to be totally bhogus.
So for now... as of today..... ATI have LOST this... please do not start any more threads on this... we all get the message.... you love ATI and will stand by them no matter what. You will find good in all their bad (which is a good thing.. I try to do this too). BUT please NO MORE TREADS ! .
Please take this and all the other criticism in the right spirit.
