warmonger Oct 11, 2005, 07:47am EDT Report Abuse
files required for windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. to maintain stability, windows must restore the original versions of these files. options are to retry or cancel. insert XP cd.

dunno how it happened. was doing a disk cleanup and it takin forever so i deleted several folders from IE content

Do a repair install.

Boot from the XP cd, but pick 'install new' NOT repair.

When the next screen comes up, then chose repair(the 2nd repair option). This will simply write over your Windows files and you should be good to go.

Because it sounds like you have deleted some Windows files, not that there is something wrong with your HD.

chkdsk checks your disk for continuity and errors. It may not be a bad idea to do one anyway. But I reckon there are missing files which you will have to reinstall

hmmm...how important can a bunch of crap off various site cause this? under more info, it stated one cause could be a bad cdrom. happens that mine stopped working normally recently. it'll spin up a bit, but nothing more. c-a-d showed it not responding

You may have inadvertantly deleted some OS files.

Also, you might wanna do a virus/adware/spyware scan. Some of them can replace your OS files.

Why not use system, restore to a point before you did this?

Then run a virus scan also.

I think your best bet would be to restore to a couple of days ago. Reinstall avast! and do a scan and remove anything it finds.

LOL

Save ya the trouble now!!

I also hate Avast!!, installed it once, uninstalled it moments later.

I find AVG very good, just keep it up to date, and use Adaware too.

How is the PC now?

Disk clean up deletes or compress what it terms as unused files.

what you did was run all and clean all that took the files away and stopped the system from running the files ( which dont have a modded date) normally this is set to 60 days but if you installed you sysytem 60 days ago and never used it, the chance is that it would distroy your system... next time you delete the temp folder try using "Mrtech systray" its quicker and for people like you safer :)
