I was curious if you can hook component cables into a standard RCA tv and still recieve a signal equivilant to the rca cables? If anyone knows I'd appreciate their help.

if you're talking about making your TV into your computer monitor it will work.
Your video card has to have an S-video out on it and you have to buy an adapter from S-video to RCA.

You want to hook up component cables to your TV instead of RCA cables? And where are these component cables coming from, a dvd player?

I'm sorry I should of explained my situation a bit more. I'm getting an xbox 360 tuesday and it comes with component cables, but I do not have a HDTV where I will be playing. My question was do I need to buy a set of RCA cables for the system or will I be able to hook up the component into my non hd tv? I think I may end u getting some S-Video cables until I can afford myself a nice HDTV though.

Component *cables*, by themselves, are nothing more than 3 RCA cables.

However, if you try to hook up the component out directly to your TV's composite input, you will get nothing.

Does the Xbox 360 not have a composite output?

Yeah that's what you'll want to use for a standard TV. The yellow output is composite video, which just about every TV has an input for.

I was under the impression that the Premium pack only came with the component cables for hd tvs. I didnt know it also came with composite rca. Either way I think ill pick up a set of S-video to try to squeeze a little better picture out of my tv until i get my hd lol. Thanks for all the help guys.

Pat,

You have to take a look at your 360 when it comes in to see what available output connectors it has with conjunction to your tv will determine what cables that you will be using. You say the 360 will come with component cable (red/green/blue connectors)....... and your tv does not have component inputs..... check to see if your tv has composite or S-video and do the same for the 360 and then use the appropriate connection for your needs.

Even if it doesn't come with composite cables, but has composite outputs, you can still use the component cables to hook it up.

Component cables are just RCA cables, same as composite. The component cables just might be of a higher quality.

Its a Xbox 360: Video Cable Comparison guide. It should answer any questions you have about anything "cable" related to the xbox 360, check it out.
