What's the big deal with comparing 2 7800GT's with ATI's X1800XT?

Let's get some things straight.

X1800XT = ATI's Top of the Line.
7800GT = NVIDIA's "best price/performance" card, not the *top of the line*

X1800XT = 512MB GDDR3 memory
7800GT = 256MB GDDR3 memory (don't give me that SLI BS...using SLI doesn't mean you have 512MB of video memory)

X1800XT = 625/1500 stock
7800GT = 400/1000 stock

X1800XT = 16 pipes
7800GT = 20 pipes

Do we see a trend here? You're comparing ATI's TOP OF THE LINE CARD to NVIDIA's third in line. What kind of a comparison is that? The ATI is getting crushed.

Well not really. Some benchmarks like AQ3 and 3dmark01 it took the lead in. Gaming performance Fear. Farcry , half life 2 It took the lead in quality and matched the FPS. Not saying its better dammit. I am comparing them Kuz I owned them and I wanted to see how well it matched up and I thought I would post benchmarks and screen shots to offer some hard facts for others. From what I have seen first hand the X1800XT 512 is a kick ass card. Also I might point out the X1800XT stomped the 7800 GTX into the ground in every test. The 7800 GTX 512. Nothing can touch it. If it was available for sale local I would have the dam thing over the X1800XT any day. But at the moment this X1800XT is top of the line available local.

Clearly SLI makes a massive difference in 3dmark03 and 3dmark05. So don't you give me your bulls**t .

Also I just noticed that I gained 1k in 3dmark5 my in game FPS went up about 20% also. Clearly 3dmark05 does paint a good picture as to how well she will do in games and also overclock makes a nice improvement in gaming FPS.

PCGEEK, I like the fact that you are being straight up & honest. It just shows the type of person you are.

Via is coming out with there own Dual Card Chipset which should compete well with Crossfire & SLI. But I still think that Crossfire & SLI should be better. CrossFire & SLI are here to stay & for a long time. So, I would think that games would be built to fully take advantage of them. That would be nice, especially if U fork over $1200 on 2 video cards, Heck, you better get a performance boost like @ least an extra 50FPS to 100FPS ;)

Oh, Asus X1800XT TOP (Overclocked - 700MHz /1600MHz ) beat the 7800GTX 512 in 3D Mark 2005. Just goes to show you how powerful the 7800GTX 512MB card is.

But isnt the 7800GTX 512 an overclocked and more memory version of the original 7800GTX 256 ???? I mean the core and pipes are the same other than the two mentioned, arent they ??

Yes, nice OC PCGEEK. That is wild man. Did you use voltage mod from ATI Tool? or not? I think you did not right? And if you water cool, that core can get to 800 MHz LOL, nice ;)

The only difference between the 7800GTX 256 vs. 512 is that the 512MB version uses 1.1 samsung memory, OC'ed GPU & RAM & a GDDR3 512MB. Everything else is the same.

So if you say the 7800GTX512 is just an over clocked regular card, then the ASUS X1800XT with the higher clocks would be the same and then could be the sudo " X1800XT PE version ".

You could look at it that way, but remember that say the GPU voltage is 1.4 stock w/ 625MHz GPU, when ATI releases there PE version the voltage stays the same most of the time. An overclocked card requires more voltage, but when it comes stock with high speed it don't.

Get what I am saying? Plus we are talking about a 24 Pipeline 7800GTX vs. a 16 Pipeline X1800XT ;)

Sapphire Radoen X1800XT OC 680MHz / 1600MHz I think?
