Sir,

I believe you challenged him to a duel. It was a mistake. To at least salvage your credibility, at a minimum you should post some benchmarks to verify your claims.

Well, you did bother to point out to him our belief that FEAR runs better with 2 GB of ram. Then, prove it. I am not saying that I disagree with you, but when youmake a statement, you have to be willing to back it up.

I have to say after reading this thread and numerous others on various forums i have to agree with PCGEEK that the ATI card is awesome. I had an x850xt which died :( and i was stuck on a card to get teh 7800gtx 512 being impossible to get hold of so the next logical choice was the x1800xt. I am glad i made the choice as overall the card is fantastic. Can't wait for the x1900xtx now for my gaming pc !!

listen ive noticed that having 2 GB of ram along with whats running in the background allows for smoother system performance along with gaming, i wouldnt be suprised if some of my FPS increased due to the amt of ram i have in here.

To tell you this, Windows that is Based on NT (Win NT-XP64) needs a very beefy computer just to run it, because NT likes to hog ram. i didnt seem to have a problem gaming with 98SE. Not to mention it didnt crash.

Yes Yes. PC Geek's point is that a system with 2 GB of ram, even if it is 2 sticks of 1 GB, is less overclockable than a system with 2 sticks of 512 MB ram. The system with 4 sticks of ram cannot sustain 1T/T1 timings. The smaller ram size also allows for more aggressive timings. This leads to higher benchmarks and scores for him. Can you match his benchmarks with your 2 GB of ram? I wouldn't go challenging him to anything.

You guys live with your 2 GB. He lives with his 1 GB. Don't lecture him that 2 Gb is better when you guys can't match his overclocks. Basically, you guys shouldn't question him until you guys are equally capable overclockers. He is telling you that his X1800XT is the superior card. Don't tell him that its not without backing yourselves up.

What do I know. I use 4 GB of ram because I like it. Do I go challenging anyone?

How can I physically PROVE to you that the extra RAM does good? I'm not arguing with the guy or making a 'bold' statement. I offered some help. PCGEEK's the one that doing all the claims, etc. READ CAREFULLY!

F.E.A.R CONSUMES NEARLY 900Gb of PHYSICAL RAM, that leaves hmmm... oh.. a 100Mb of RAM left the computer it self will need more than that to run suffiently. If it doesn't then the RAM starts paging, and hence the slowness whilst playing the game. Insert another 1GB, and everything can run sweet.

Now, i'm not saying anymore on this. It's doing my head in, and I've seen kids act more adult like.

well then why even do the Motherboard makers put 4 ram slots on motherboards if peeps are not gonna utilize them, well why do even people bother buying motherboards with 4 ram slots in the first place if they are not even going to utilize it???

Well at least post some in game benchmarks i guess like fps count while using 1GB and then again 2GB. If you say it helps out by a long shot ... then I would think your fps would increase by a whole bunch too. You dont have to compete with anyone... this is all done with your own system that you can prove that the extra 1GB is worth it.

Listen, you don't have to prove anything to me. I use 4 GB across all four dimm slots. PC Geek's point is that my strategy, whether or not is better, will not allow me to overclock to the extent that he can. That is absolutely correct.

That's total bull about the 1Gb being more effective for over-clocking than 2x512Mb.
Read up about it man! Are you gonna want 4x512's in or 2 or 3 1Gb sticks. Overclocking's more efficient with 2Gb sticks, than say 2 512 sticks

ive noticed that Motherboards tend to have problems with 4x512MB sticks of ram to make up 2 GB than 2x1GB sticks of ram, its due to the density of the 512MB sticks. and im pretty sure that having 4x1GB sticks is not a problem for todays motherboards. Ive noticed that my overall User Experience is better with 2GB sticks of ram. Also if you noticed if you use 3GB or more ram you can turn off that annoying Space Hogging PageFile/Swapspace.

You are the one that's not reading carefully. What do I use? Look.

I just told you that I use the maximum amount of ram across all dimms slots. I have double the ram you have.

And when motherboards support more ram, I will top up and max out on the ram all the time.

if you can afford it that is, also thats great lan, also have you turned off that annoying swapspace? Cause i noticed that turning it off with 2GB of ram causes the system to respond alot quicker, and possibly gaming experience is better, just that having certain services running in background (thats a major negative of all NT Windows OS) and along with running 7zips compression to max setting (requires like 2 GB to compress in previous version) i was running out of resources to use so i leave the swapspace on, besides i have 100 GB HD installed on this laptop and also using the old drive as external storage (PORN, programs etc)

tried 2 1 gig sticks few months back, Same exact ram just 1 gig sticks, Could not overclock as high. Also i loosed about 25% of my in game FPS in Fear and half life 2 and far cry and quake 4 with out my overclock.

1 gig sticks don't handle it the same.

I would love to have 2 gigs don't get me wrong. its just that if i do move to 2 gig i loose hella more then its worth.

probably a problem is having the windows swapfile enabled? course if you have more than 2 i would turn it off.
