I believe that PCGEEK, 1 gig sticks don't overclock the same. I wanted 2 gigs for video editing, with 1 gig I was always running short on memory while trying to manage huge videos. For everything else 1 gig was more than enough.

I wanted to overclock nicely as well though, which is why I went for DDR500. With 2 gigs of DDR400, I doubt I could have ever reached 2.6GHz. <without a divider, that is.

ya well maybe he should have not made it sound like his 7800 GTX was better then mine then don't you think ?

I already know there is no way in hell a 7800 GTX 256 even massive overclocked will put out the same gaming performance . It was a bad call for him to think it could match a X1800XT 512

Hes ruining what 460 1300 and Im ruining 760 1860 lol I mean HELLO not even close to match .

"btw heres a major spoiler for all BLUE LOVED HIS ASUS x850XT board, he also loved his Pentium 4 Skt T Asus Motherboard."

Here's an update for those that seem to want to know: (Btw, I was saying those things when it was about 1 month old and way before the AMD dual cores were released. I'll also say that my Intel machine still spanks many AMD machines owned by the general population. :))

My x850 does not work in the new machine. It causes blue screens. It is now OVERHEATING with everything at stock speeds in the Intel machine. A particular catalyst driver caused Java to malfunction, as well as windows explorer. I am not getting warnings and error messages about temps. Now here's the kicker. I got it last February... It's not even a year old... In my oldest machine, I still have an NVIDIA card that is running just fine. It has been doing so for the past 6 years, running 24/7 I might add...

As far as the memory issue, 2 x 512 is the fastest setup possible simply due to higher speeds at lower latencies. If you are running a database server or something with multiple accesses to seperate threads, then perhaps 4 GB's would serve you better. Other than that, you wasted money because you thought that bigger was better, as many noobs do. Not sure who brought it up or what all was said since I skipped a lot of it, but that is fact. I've done more than enough overclocking and research to know what I'm talking about in the memory department.

Appreciate you advice but I'm not into overclocking. My video editing requires a minimum of 2.8 GB of ram just for the application minus the OS. You don't really know what I use my PC for. Did I say I use it mostly to play games? Next, you are going to tell me I use SLI because I am a novice? Thanks for the vote of confidence but I am no newbie. I bet I was computing before *you were born*. I have built PCs in the hundreds.

What's gotten into you? Why are you so darn hostile? Do you see me using an ATI video card?

PCGEEK, I bet *any* 2GB (2x1GB) set of PC4000 Crucial Ballistix will wipe the crap out of 1GB RAM. The Ballistix reach 300Mhz+, while your 1GB is stuck at 250.

Really, I appreciate someone calling me a newbie, but I really was using a computer before Blue was born. I am more than old enough to be his father. He is studying computer science in college or whatever DeVry is called. I received my third masters degree almost 20 years ago. What's more important, I was using computers when computers used tape drives and cassette players for disks. Floppies were not 3-1/2...not 5-1/4... they were 8 inches. I bet few of you, if any, have ever seen an 8 inch floppy.

Third? Damn Ian. Let me guess....you have a couple phD's as well?

The president of India has 30 phD's...some conferred, but still.

Well, Blue, it looks like your Intel CPU or motherboard has compatability issues, because there is nothing wrong with ATI's Cat drivers or there X850's.

You may want to do a complete format & a fresh Win XP instal, then after chipset & graphic drivers, go to Windows Update.

Take Care,

No Predator. No PhDs. I went to college on an acclerated masters/bachelor's program in economics (4 years). Then I left to go to work. I return for my MBA in finance and a Masters of International Affairs degree with a specialization in International Business. I couldn't stand the theoretical element of academics. I live too much in the real world. Plus, I don't like being broke forever :)

Predator,

That's 8 years of med school, internship and post-doc fellowship, after 4 years of pre-med in college. Recognize that you *will* be broke during this time. Hospitals pay jacks**t. Surgeons usually don't get a proper salary till their mid-30s at a minimum. If you go into private practice after that, then you will get loaded, provided that you escape the malpractice lawyers. Usually top surgeons sacrifice lifestyle and money for the public good. Working at a major hospital or university hospital will never make you rich, but you will live very comfortably. As an example, you don't expect a Harvard/Yale/Stanford med school department head/surgical head to be a millionaire, just a wealthy guy that has no time for any hobbies lol
