Yup you got plenty of options Northwood 3.0Ghz wih 800 FSB upto 3.2Ghz(maybe 3.4Ghz)
But i recommend you to Upgrade your Mobo too & add a 64bit Processor AMD or Intel
& remember whatever Mobo u buy it should be Duel Core processor compatible

PEACE! alright??

It depends on your motherboard, if its an older 478 board it may not support 800mhz FSB or the newer prescott cores....

Tell us what motherboard you have and we'll tell you the best CPU thats compatable with it.

David.

Bro, I would suggest you look into getting a newer motherboard. They don't cost that much & you will have a lot more flexability when choosing your CPU.

This is what I suggest.
Asus P5ND2-SLI Motherboard
http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=0&...odelmenu=1

Intel Pentium D - 820 Dual-Core Processor (2.8GHz) (64-Bit Support ;))
OR
Intel Pentium 4 - 640 (3.2GHz) Processor (64-Bit Support ;))

I mean it depends on what you want & how much you want to spend. But a nice $300 or so investment would last you a long time. The mobo is around $105 I think and the CPU's are not that much IMO.

Or just get the older Intel Pentium 4 - 3.2E GHz for your mobo you have right now, but it will cost like $40 cheaper then the Dual Core. That don't make sense ?

ok heres the Deal, What ram do you have, cause if its 400 (PC3200) FSB suggest getting a 400 or 800 FSB Northwood CPU.

AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ (133x14= 1867MHz) (209x11= 2299MHz)
DFI LP NF2 Ultra-B (Hellfire 3EG Rev2)
Antec SX800, Neo HE 500, 4 Antec 8CM Fans
Thermalright SI-97 1 Antec Tricool 12CM Fan
CL SB XFi Xtreme Music
2x Barracuda HDs (250/400)

Asus P5ND2-SLI Motherboard

---------------
IF i get that mobo, then i'm gonna have to get a new chassis/tower or whatever because I see slots in different places and two PCI-express (?) slots, it's like getting a whole new computer but just a chassis and mobo, which is cheaper

are there anymore pics of that mobo?

SuperXP,

Tsk,Tsk,Tsk,Tsk........ (shaking head)..... You just cost the dude about 1200.00 bucks in upgrades with your suggestion.... give me your hand so I can slap it. ;)

You suggesting in your opinion to go with that Asus mb and a new proc ( cost for P5ND2-SLI & 3.2ghz 650 775 = $335.00 ) doesnt cost too much.......well is not quite correct.... it will cost him a whole lot more from where his current stage now with a socket 478, agp, ddr, psu, case. etc...... By going with those two newer components... he will have to upgrade to PCI-e gpu, DDR-2, a new case if his old one does not work out, and a new PSU to better support the new components. As you can see.... cost starts to escalate.

Now to you 1000.00 may be pocket change to you and you probably have that in the back of your wallet..... but to him.... coming up with 250.00 could be much harder than he wants to.... No one asked if he wanted or could upgrade to a new system or how much he wanted to spend......

If he can spend a fortune on a new system.... then the best choice would be to go with a normal P4 socket 478. But this is all depending on how old his motherboard is and what it will currently support.

We need to know what brand and model of motherboard he has to better give him suggestions for the least cost to him. Unless he is willing to fork out for a whole new system then he of course has a much wider options.

G.G. don't worry about it. I already gave myself a bitch slap upside my head ;)

Then he should just pick up a AMD mobo & A64 3200+ because it supports what ever he has right now :)

Reason is because I don't think the fastest CPU his mobo supports is worth the money right now. It carries a high price for something they are not producing anymore. He is better off with the AMD setup in that case, or unless there is a cheaper Intel setup which he can addopt.

LOL @ SuperXP.

Well it all depends on his wallet and how much he is willing to let go.

What a bunch of BS! The only person I can agree with in this thread is CC. He aksed to get rid of the Celeron not for a new motherboard. Are you people blind and you can't read? If he has a Socket 478 his best and cheapest option is to get a Pentium 4 3.0 with 512K Level 2 cache off ebay. Dont get a prescott because they screw up with WinXP SP2. Its a nuisance to do. Ryujin my friend, do the best and cheapest thing you can with that motherboard. Get a good P4 chip from ebay. Thread closed. If anyone disagrees with me remember one thing....arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics...even if you win....you're still retarted. I'm telling it like it is. Thread closed.

and exactly who da fook put Mr. 1 post in charge?

I'm sorry buddy, but you dont say when a thread is closed, or start to talk with such disrespect to / about other members.

BTW, your 'retard' joke, might not be found very humourous by others, and I'd suggest you edit your post.

However, I agree that unless he's willing to spend around $1k, upping the CPU to a decent P4 would be the best option.

Yanni,

well... I will have to disagree with you about the Prescott thingie with Win XP SP1.... dont know where you get that idea from.... I have a Prescott 650 3.4ghz and it had worked perfectly with Win XP SP1 and works perfectly now with SP2.

It all stems around what his motherboard will support... What it will support will determine what version of P4 he will ultimately be able to get.

Please state your motherboard. We can't recommend a CPU when we don't know which FSB 478 socket you have.
