I Have made an image of of my drive. But now I am restoring it, I'm having a little trouble. The files are there but it isn't booting. I'm guessing the problem is that the image didn't copy the boot sector, so I figured run FIXBOOT from the recovery console, but it insists that there password I need before it will allow me into the recovery console. But no password was ever set up. is there anyway to bypass the password, or to create a new bootsector from somewhere that isn't the recover console (I was thinking putting FIXBOOT on a 98 startup disk and running it from the command prompt, but can't find the file).

I'd be greatful for any help on this.

Just posting to get the message back to the top of the list so it doesn't drop into obscurity.

Make a DOS bootdisk (http://www.bootdisk.com), and make sure it has FDISK on it.

Boot from it, and type FDISK /MBR
You might have to copy FDISK to your hard drive first, but I don't think so.

If there's no password just hit enter without typing in a password. It should work fine. I'm assuming you're talking about the recovery console where it asked you which windows installation to log into.
