Good morning, gang. One of my computers is not turning on at all. I replaced the cpu fan and the power supply (following proper installation rules). Even with the new parts, it is still doing what it did before I replaced the parts. That is ... after you hit the start button, the cpu fan will spin for 1 second and then stop. The LED light in front is on, there seem to be power, but the computer won't do anything at all.

Can someone help me with the problem? Budget is tight and I really can't afford a tech. Thanks for the help.

Hi Spiker-welcome to HWA.

Take out and reseat your hardware-memory first-and see if that makes a difference. If not, it's going to be either a mobo or cpu issue, I'd imagine.

Make sure you connected the PSU to the mobo and the cpu.

I'm afraid your motherboard is dead. Same thing happened to my parent's computer.

I had a similar problem with my current A64 system. I bought a quality psu, replaced the old one and it booted up fine. Perhaps the psu you replaced it with is bad quality. What PSU did you replace the old one with? It sounds like either your PSU isn't providing enough power OR your motherboard is dead.

The PSU is connected properly to the mobo and cpu. There are no beeps. I purchased the cpu fan and the PSU from Altex Computers and they are good brands and working condition. The computer is about 2-3 years old also.

I had a feeling that the issue may be the mobo. I was just hoping that maybe there was another reason. Thanks for the advice guys. I really appreciate it.

Worth checking : remove the motherboard and clean both the back of the motherboard and the case - maybe a ball of fluff is shorting something. Replace the motherboard then remove the motherboard battery for 30 secs or so, then replace.

do you have the 4-pin 12V ATX power connector plugged into the motherboard?
