Very nice work... Vista is sure sexy.

But... you forgot to mention how Solitare's performace was... what kind of a frame rate are you getting?

>> Re: Vista Beta 2 Preview by Water Drop
Not sure but Solitare runs very nicely, must be at least 30-50 frames per second.

Ok, a friend of mine who works for Microsoft at India, Bangalore came here to New Delhi few days back with Windows Vista Beta 32-bit, for a month break (His permanent address is in New Delhi). He has a following system where he live:

Intel Pentium4 1.40 GHz
Asus Motherboard with i850 Chipset
Samsung 256MB RDRAM PC800
GeForce4 MX440
80GB Hard Drive

Fortunately, I was there at his place when he was installing Windows Vista on his computer, it was running pretty good on that rig mentioned above. He also told me that Vista may be available in three months time from now on.

Upon asking that, Doesn't Vista requires a killer rig?, his initial reply was as follows:

No, Vista will run fine on older systems, there's no requirement for very fast Single Core or Dual Core Processor.

I really like Windows Vista, it really looks very appealing and neat. Especially the IE-7+ looks to me a great improvement over IE-6.0. I asked him to get me a legal copy of Windows Vista next time when he visits New Delhi.

And most probably I will get the Ultimate Windows Vista 64-bit at 75% less price :D

Yeah, it's the people who have never used vista that say you need 4GB of ram, and a 3Ghz CPU, and SLI. And those people who have not used it also say its crappy and slow and stuff. Not true, it runs fast and smooth, and isnt that intensive except on the ram side of things. I would say it uses quite a bit of ram. But if you got 1GB you got plenty. I have 768MB of slow ddr333 ram in a wierd configuration and the OS runs great.

Nice review, Adam.

I don't know about you, but I've noticed that everything is slightly laggy with my Vista install, but it may be due to the old mobo I had running it (which crippled my video card). When I get my new PSU, I'll try it with my new mobo here.

Yea, it was running just fine on his rig, although I was slightly surprised to see that though.

Nevermind,..people are already using 1GB, and most people are also using 2GB, and 1GB of decent Memory is already been selling at such a cheap price. So, I don't think Memory would be an issue. However, if someone has less Memory like 512MB, and still want faster performance and don't have money to buy Memory and still want to use Vista, then I guess Windows 'Classic' theme would suit them just fine.

I can assure about it, Windows Vista will be a very popular Operating System.

Yeah, and actually I wish that it would demand more from the hardware. The more demand from the hardware, most times it means better looking and performing.

btw, waterdrop, some of your first post is doubled.

I finally uploaded some screenshots. Here we go.

This is the new Vista Ultimate Media Center which is very similar to XP MCE but it will be included in Vista Ultimate and Vista Home Premium:

Here is Vista's new "Game" Folder (like my Documents for games), the new control panel, the new photo viewer and the new DVD maker:

When you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, this is the new screen that pops up:

It asks if you want to switch user, log off, lock the computer, change a password, or open Task Manager

Here is Windows Media Player 11, IE7, the new start menu, and the new My Computer which is now just called "Computer":

Here is the new Vista 3D Chess Titans, the new Windows Update, Network Center, and the new Volume Control which lets you change the volume for each individual program that is open:

ya well the screenshots were 1680x1050, but I had to resize them to like 800x500 to make it a smaller file size to make them easier to upload. I guess 800x500 must be the same 16:10 ratio as 1680x1050.

Yep,

1680 / 1050 = 1.6
800 / 500 = 1.6

Interesting how Sander's preview is a bit different from mine and pickles. I found very few slowdowns and it ran quite well. I wonder what performance rating Vista gave the machine that Sander was running it on? Pickle's P4 2.4/512/9600Pro test box ran it fine (performance rating of 2 overall), and my P4 2.66 / 768 / 6800 (performance rating of 4 overall) box ran it even better. Neither of these are great ultra powerful rigs.
