for a shooter, any shooter, you're better off with a keyboard/mouse, or a nostromo n50/2 and mouse . n52here: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id..._Id=157024 i'm using the n50 and it's very easy to setup a game profile

Why you'd want to use a game pad for a FPS is beyond me, however everyone to their own.

I would agree that maybe for flying a helicopter it might be good.

Keyboard & mouse, with a joystick on standby is the best combination for BF2 imo.

When you said LOOKING, you mean looking for left to right which is the Left Ctrl key on the keyboard.
Can you program one of the button to emulate the LEFT CTRL key? If you can, then great that is all you need to do. While you are in game press/hold the button (that emulates the left ctrl key) and move the X axis stick to pan side to side.

On a side note. yesterday I downloaded a Keyboard to Joystick emulater from http://www.bf2s.com...haven't tested it out though on a joystick and game pad.

Dublin - I am not sure of the file name but I downloaded it from http://www.BF2s.com. If you go to their FILE link, they have several files to download....I think I got it from their UTILITY link. It's a .RAR file so you will need Win-ACE or Win-RAR to uncompress it. BF2S has been having problems with their site lately...I can email it to you if you can't retrieve it from them.

My joystick kinda works under the normal BF2 setting but I notice it is not as responsive as keyboard and mouse. I have my sensitive set to the max. 10 and Pitch set to 10. so that is the reason why I am going to test the keyboard to joystick emulator....see if improves response time.

UPDATE: here is the link http://files.bf2s.com/files.php?cat=13

It's the last file / link (Joystick to Keyboard ver 3.7.9)

the reason why i want to use my 360 controller is because 1# im more of a console gamer and im ridiculously nasty on the sticks and 2# the mouse for looking is great but the keyboard sucks anus ands its to cumbersome. i say this because on the 360 game pad for example you can map out 16 different commands all within milimeters of each other but on a keyboard to map out that many functions you have to use at least 3 rows of 4 keys to do that. on top of that on the game pad you're only using 4 fingers, both index and both thumbs which makes using/reaching those keys MUCH EASIER. on a keyboard you're using all fingers and they are spread out on top of moving your right hand around and using up to 3 fingers; index middle and thumb which makes things much more complicated and less ergonomic. even specialty pads like the nostromo the keys have exactly the same shape of keys on a keyboard which equals less ergonomic as a controller and just better than a traditional keyboard but still as complicated. im much more adapted at using a controller. i have call of duty2 for pc and 360, i dominate the 360 version but i get my ass wupped on the pc. the only advantage that a mouse/keyboard setup has over controllers is the mouse for looking if you're a sniper but everything sucks. on top of that i'll dominate some one with a mouse/keyboard if i can use my controller.

Pk. Dude, if you like using the game pad go for it. But there is a simple reason why Pro gamers use keyboard and mouse. Its 100x more precise etc. Even the very best game pad will not even be close to as precise in a millasecond when you need it. Theyve already tested this. Its a simple fact. But I say, IF you enjoy using a game pad on games then Go for it. Im 100% for you on using it. I could see using a d pad when your driving tanks or helecopters to be ok, but not in general combat. You have to be super super precise in a second or your dead. I thought the same thing before I got used to using a keyboard and mouse, once you go black,,,, errr keyboard/mouse you never go back. It might help if you buy a gaming keyboard with all the functions there easily accesible. And you also can keymap everything you need near your fingers on a keyboard. Most stuff you need, after your used to using a keyboard will be easy.

Warmonger. You got a nostroma also. YOu actualy use and like it. For me it kills my wrist and forsee carpletunnel sydrome. I also have to reach farther to use it and cant rest my forarms on my chair arms and it kills my shoulder after awhile. I thought about buying a smaller keyboard, or even a gaming keyboard. But when I used it it worked great, besides getting used to it. What do you think about it???

About my spelling, If you say anything about it im gonna hunt your nerdy english aniel retentive arrrssse down and beat the elcrapo right out of you!!!!

I have a friend who is a hardcore console gamer... and I am trying my hardest to convert him to far superior pc games. Well, since he's not a computer nerd like myself, he is not comfortable using a keyboard & mouse. I argued the same points you have all made here, but he insists that I needed to get a controller working on BF2.

I happened to find a USB Logitech Rumblepad at the thrift store for a couple bucks. I tried the program linked on this list & could not configure the analog left & right axis. So, I hopped on Logitech's site and found the software for the controller. Wow!! Talk about customization. You can set EVERYTHING including sensitivities and range of motion. The start button works great for the parachute key, too.

Well... I'm still not convinced that it's better than my 5 button mouse, but it's not too shabby. Beats using a touchpad! Just takes forever getting the sensitivities & button config just right. The rumblepad has a nice throttle slider that works great for controlling a turret, as I can set the sensitivity & range really high so I can spin around really fast! If you've ever tried playing with a touchpad, the turrets are TORTURE.

think i might get this instead: http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/cupro.htm has a few more buttons

edit: Try, don't see how a gamepad like that is useful for shooter. i have the same one and it's perfect for TRL. prolly the best pad out there

>> PC controller game pads DO work with battlefield 2?
Hey everyone.

I have recently spliced an xbox controller to use in Battlefield 2 as well... First off, yes, the Keyboard and Mouse combination is a sick sick sick, SICK means of playing the best FPS games. It may be the best, and may be the most sensitive. However, I am even sicker on a game pad like the xbox's, and moreover, I am even better than YOU! Hehehe :)

For using the helicopter and airplane I can, and have many many times, run an entire round without dieing because using the game pad is so much better.

However, I too cannot get battlefield to use a thumb-stick to control mouse look. Though I know this is because battlefield, the game itself, does not support this.

BIG QUESTION>>>Does anyone know a way to mess with the device drivers or something base-level like that to get the computer to recognize one of the thumb sticks as a mouse?
I think this might be the best way to proceed to accomplish this.

Seriously, once you get good at using game pads for FPS games, your reaction times are through the roof compared to a keyboard mouse because of the short movements needed. You need to get the accuracy on your own though, it's tough.

Well the main reason for that is due to the auto-aim that FPS console shooters have, as I found so myself on COD2 for the 360. I do live to use the kar9 with the xbox360 controller. :_)

There's a nice freeware program called Xpadder that let's you assign keyboard and mouse buttons to just about any PC gamepad, joystick, etc. that plugs into a gameport (I used a USB2Gameport adapter) You can also save custom profiles to tailor the assignments to specific games or needs.

http://majorgeeks.com/Xpadder_d5282.html
http://xpadder.com/

Main Features:
-Full keyboard and mouse emulation
-Up to 16 controller support for multiplayer gaming
-Rumble/force-feedback and advanced fine-tuning
-Updated database (over 120 controllers, adapters and drivers)
-Multiple profile management
