It's an add-on card. So yeah, you'd use it with a X1900, or whatever.
It uses a PCI slot.

I personally think it is just silly when you spend all this money on components like the cpu graphics card etc and in order to get top performance now you have to go and buy another expensive item.

Keep in Mind: The game software also has to been programmed to utilize the PhysX Accelerator. There are twenty + / - games that support it....Ghost Recon Advance Warfare is one of em. So if PhysX gains popularity, high in demand, then software developers will incorporate it in their games and it may have a place in our beloved rigs. :)

According to some guy on this forum he does not get a higher 3DMARK06 score with his Ageia PhysX card in:

you can run one of the demos on your own computer without the physx card. and it runs perfectly on my old althon xp system. so question is why do we need an extra piece of hardware?

That demo is a software demo not hardware demo. Its like the difference between software rendering and hardware rendering. If you played the demo on a PC with a Physx card, it would be much more impressive.

would it? i would lke some more proof before i decide to pay a lot for a physx card.

but i am impressed by how much hype there is for this system. lets hope it takes off and actually adds value and fun to gaming.

This card sux! Why? If our next gen cards such as 7800gtx require this to run crap games like GR War fighter, then the current GPU cards aren't doing their jobs efficiently? In fact, aren't gpu cards supposed to take the weight off CPU's anyways? all the latest cards by nvidia and ati shouldn't even require this 'waste of money' add on. I've spent nearly 2000 on a pc, and it still requires a ******* card like this to run games this way? I feel a sense of 'much-ripped-offness!' I'd high expectations when i first built my current pc, only to be disappointed with the responsiveness of say F.E.A.R! With my pc specs, this game should be flying in the FPS at all setttings maxed out @ 1600x1200.
I'm not expecting much difference with the next gen cards either. Those GPU & CPU companies do not deliver for todays technology standards i think. It's more to do with making money. Period!!

Look at my specs and other user specs. They are high end, games like F.E.A.R should have a constant 75FPS whilst using fraps (with all settings maxed at high res)

....I'm back, but only as a part-timer... :)

Yes i agree it sux & its a Ripp Off.Nvidia & ATi both are playing games with the consumer Now add Ageia to the list to.Question arises How?.Simple By releasing Drivers that are made for New Chips Old Chips are supported but in those Drivers they Shrinks the performance of Old one & makes the New Chip loook awesume out performaing the Old Chip.
Just a Conspiracy Theory

Money is NOT the only factor here.
lol...think about it?
Are you guys even considering how much processing power it takes to simulate real world physics?
Get with the program people!
Physics processing has nothing to do with graphics processing.
Which is why this card was created.
So now with the power of this card, game developers can create truly stunning physics.
But it's not just limited to game developers.
Off the top of my head, another use for it could be for simulating car crashes much more accurately by top automobile designers...

Also, a game MUST BE programmed to use it.
Many game engines out there such as the unreal engine license other physics simualtion software to handle all the physics simulations.
Such as, ODE, Havoc, and Novodex.
Ageia developed Novodex, so it's only obvious that games using novodex to do all the physics will work with the PhysX accelerator card...maybe not past games though?

you have a really good point there....a cpu can only do maybe 40-50 physics elements per second....now when you have a dedicated PPU....you could then do 10,000+ elements per second.....and that definetly looks like a improvement as long as the software supports it

Im pretty sure alot of the Popular Current Titles will be patched up to Utilize the Capabilities of the PPU. Course what id like to see is alot more PCI Express Boards Comming Out as AMD/Intel Made such a Drastic Switch that no One has built boards for it, We need Sound, Disk Controllers, Lan/Wireless adapters.

what do you meen....more pci-e x1 slots....or boards that can run in the pci-e x16 slots

There are 4 different types of PCIe Slots.
1x, 4x, 8x, and 16x
PCIe was orginally aimed to replace AGP.
As it allowed a way for dual graphics processing to be achieved.
Thus making you rich folk spend more money on an extra graphics card.
But now I think Ageia is threatening that with it's release of the PhysX Accelerator...

"We need Sound, Disk Controllers, Lan/Wireless adapters"

Can't really say why it's taking so long for other technologies to catch up with it?

how about just a Single Slot Solution, Full Multi PCI Express 16 slots on the motherboards say 6.
