Uber AMD XP 1700+ Overclocking --- XD ---

Well... instead of owning some expensive 64 bit PC, I decided to go the fun route.

Having an AMD XP 1700+ is a nice little overclocking tool. I cannot use a brand new PC and overclock it because I cannot afford for something to go wrong. But when you own a cheap little piece of junk (that isn't so junkish with Windows 2000/Linux and 512mb ram... and some nice overclocking), you can overclock the snot out of it without worrying about anything.

I sold my brand new AM2 system and bought this little thing for cheap. About $100. But then I had to pay $100 more to get an 80 gig harddrive... 512mb DDR 400 stick.... and 4 or so different fans.

Heck... I even am running a fan unmounted. It just sits underneath my oh-powerful Geforce 4 MX440 64mb card. This is one of those evercool fans for the slot one CPUs or something... so its 2 fans that are mounted onto a golden colored thing. It looks awesome and one fan blows in and the other blows out. Its really neat looking.

The motherboard is basically only containing 1 fan. The CPU has the stock fan. But I got several other fans just chilling out in there. And I don't use the side covers either... hehe.

*Note: I plan on getting a cheap watercooling kit eventually. Nothing expensive or whatever. Just trying to get it up and running... and getting my stuff configured... etc. Money is needed also.*

So ...
Back to overclocking.

This is more of a question topic than anything else. Here is some of the specs about the CPU.

AMD XP 1700+

1466mhz stock

133mhz FSB

This is the lowest of the AMD XP FSBs. But its okay. I can overclock it to 150mhz FSB and have it running at 1650 mhz.... but I dunno what is the best to run it at. Right now it is formatting the harddrive so I can install Win2k and all that. Have it running at stock because I don't need any uber overclocking to install $|-|!TTY Windows. But actually. Win2k was a awesome OS. XP sucked balls. Vista was a lesbo...

Oooookay then.

I was just wondering any overclocking tips and smartness from our fellow HWA followers. Because your so smart.... I love you.

But not really.

Anyway. Everyone comment except A_Pickle. Hes smart in a dumb sense. He likes ATI and Intel (which no longer sucky) for good reasons but he's dumb for liking them. Lol. Sorry A_Pickle. Forgive me lol.

Smartness is greatly appreciated. Send tips and money to my paypal account. Which you gotta PM me for.
You sneeky farggin icehole.

Kind Regards,

do you happen to know if your Multiplier is unlocked? Also considering all K7 Parts are Skt A, you can drop even a old Duron into a current Athlon XP mobo and max out performance on it. Recommended Motherboards, Abit KW7-G and Top end NF2 U400 Mobo, MSI K7N2 Delta-2 Platinum, DFI NF2 U400 mobo. Also dont think you will be able to run a MX4 series vidcard as many games are not supporting them, even tho they say they are GF4 they are lower in performance than a GF 3 TI 200. Also if you want Watercooling, go for it, or you can get Aircooling that is awsome for motherboards with the Mounting holes around the socket.

AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ (133x14= 1867MHz) (209x11= 2299MHz)
DFI LP NF2 Ultra-B (Hellfire 3EG Rev2)
Antec SX800, Neo HE 500, 4 Antec 8CM Fans
Thermalright SI-97 1 Antec Tricool 12CM Fan
CL SB XFi Xtreme Music
2x Barracuda HDs (250/400)
2x Samsung Write

Nah. Multiplier is locked. I can't edit it in bios. Stuck at 11x. Love to see another person with a $|-|!TTY old PC. Makes me realize that they aren't that crap.

Not making any component changes on this PC. Its an Asus A7M266. My father made custom builds for people back in the day.... and he made this one for this guy as a top of the line PC and to this day the guy brought it in with a failed fan on the motherboard. Couldn't find a exact replacement so just super glued it over the original XD. Guy was paranoid to now end so he went to our store and blew a grand on a brand new PC with a 19" LCD.

Dunno if its a PC worth spending $100 or something for a water cooling kit. Thats $300 bucks!!!

well if the CPU pops, then the watercooling system is still good. Right now im trying to get some high end ram, longer IDE cables, VGA Ramsinks, Possibly a better PSU as my old one was 460 watt and it was sold with another system
