Hello everyone.

Macs now have a fighting edge against PCs. Now running top notch hardware.... such as Core Duo... they put up a good fight with regular PCs.

This will be flamebait but its okay. Lets look at some things.

Toshiba TECRA M5-S5331 laptop :

Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83ghz
512mb RAM
80GB HD
DVD Burner
14.1" Screen
WiFi/ 10/100/1000 ethernet

About $1500-1600

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Apple MacBook -Configured to Specs-

Intel Core Duo 2.0ghz
512mb RAM
80GB HD
DVD Burner
13.3" Screen
Built-In iSight Video Camera
Mac OS X Tiger
AirPort Extreme & Bluetooth

About $1,349.00

Heck... buying Windows for it is still cheaper. Thats absolutely awesome. Considering you get a built-in video camera, a faster CPU... and a pimp "elite PC".

Who can top that?

Crapintosh here I come.

:D

Kind Regards,
Miles

Apple is just another OEM now. They had to ditch proprietary when their only processor manufacturer (IBM) said they weren't going to produce any more Power PC processors for Apple.

Toshiba is more expensive, compare Apple to Dell. Im sure Dell.com's deals on so and so Inspirion model can easily beat Apple in price/features/performance. If Im wrong, then let me configure it on thier website, im sure I can figure a way to make it cheaper. Plus Dell coupon codes, and you'll save money buying the Dell.

I found a better deal than that Macintrash.

Dell Inspirion E1405 Dual Core
Intel Core Duo 2Ghz
14.1" Widescreen
1GB DDR2 (2 DIMMS - Dual Channel)
80GB SATA HDD
Dual Layer Multi-format DVD Burner
Intel Media Accelerator 950 (onboard but still better than what the Macbook offers)
built in 802.11 B/G
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
free Dell 725 Printer included

total as configured above $1152

if you want Built in bluetooth add $49, if you only need 512MB of ram substract $65

ASUStek (aka Asus) manufactures the Macbook for Apple. If you don't believe me look it up, it is well known that Asus makes the Macbook (and Foxconn makes the iPod for that matter). So it makes sense they make a look a like with thier own brand on it.

Isn't it funny that two of Apple's most popular products (Macbook and iPod) are manufactered by the two biggest PC motherboard makers?

I've maintained for some time that the MAC OSX is a good operating system.
I've also maintained that Atari and Sega did the right thing by going into software alone, vs HW.
I don't care what you MS and X86 fanboys say, the OS X is a GOOD OS.

My gripe is that the OS X is only going to be supported on Apple X86 systems, or systems that meet the exact standard of these semi-proprietory systems.

I want OS X to support my present (almost) top of the line HW, and be able to utilize both the MS XP/XP64 and OS X on my HW.

When this happens, we will see some major changes to how OS's are marketed, charged for and handled.

Im going to be using Mac OS X for a whole semester in some artsy class i have to take to graduate from high school this upcoming year. Cause I can't draw and paint for crap and I can't act or sing or play an interstrument (or spell that word), my only choice was some dumb art class where they use macs and photoshop, and other artsy fartsy programs on the Mac. Im sure after a whole semester I will find out the truth about Mac, Apple, and OS X.

Airman,
I'm not so sure that a OS X system running on a X86 platform is any slower than XP/XP64 or even Vista ON THE SAME PLATFORM.
I've not seen it yet, and some applications that are native to MAC definately run faster given the same HW.
OS X is a Unix based core/kernel and CAN be much faster than the typical MS XP+ platform.

Gerritt, its Darwin Based Kernel. And a few months back maximum PC ran a Mactel system with both XP and OSX latest, and XP ran at a faster speed.
