Okay. So almost everyone has read my new Mac vs Pc flamebait thread... since it does have 65 posts on it, so I need to ask for some help from you guys.

I know you guys aren't big fans of Macs... but maybe you are of me. Or maybe you aren't. I may not be the nicest guy... but I am asking for your help.

Okay... lemme review:

* Need money for a Mac Pro so I can do my graphics development
** I am a young individual... so most people won't fund my particular needs
*** You guys are my only... knowledgable friends at computers, so I thought you might understand

So here is the specs for the Mac:

* Two 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
* 4GB (4 x 1GB)
* 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 512MB, Stereo 3D (2 x dual-link DVI)
* Apple Cinema Display (20" flat panel)
* Two 16x SuperDrives
* Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English
* Mac OS X - U.S. English

Thats about seven thousand dollars (!!). This is the most expensive scenario there is. I could drop the 500GB harddrive... the Cinema display.... the extra SuperDrive.... but the rest I can't.

So anywhere from 6 - 7 thousand dollars. I know its pricey... but I am just asking for some help.

No!! I don't mean financial help.... haha. Had you fooled. I actually mean if you could lemme know if you guys know of any organizations that might fund my needs.

Kind Regards,
Miles

To play devil's advocate: what the heck kind of graphics work are you planning to do that you "need" a machine like that? Couldn't you do it more slowly/less fashionably with a lesser machine?

i looked up and down the list and can't see why the system would cost you 6k - 7k.
besides, if performance is of such paramount, i would go with a dual opteron system and through in a physics card. forget about the apple display, there are many other good displays out there for less money.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Yeah, thats rediculous to me. Why do you need DUAL 3GHz CPUS and an apple Cinema display. Why a Mac at all?

If you are doing this for a business, make an amazing business plan and present it to some banks.

Try Bill Gates. Here: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/default.htm
Just forward him your post here, he will feel very very sorry for you and be paying for your needs above.

Apple 20" Widescreen LCD: $700
Dell 20" Widescreen LCD: $400 (you can get it for around $300 when Dell has its crazy deals)
Viewsonic 20" Widescreen LCD: $330
Samsung 20" Widescreen LCD: $299
BenQ 20" Widescreen LCD: $280 or less
Off-brand 20" Widescreen LCD: $250

What do all these monitors have in common, well most of them use the same exact LG.Phillips 20" LCD panel inside (the Samsung probally has a Samsung LCD panel inside, which is equally as impressive), other than that the main differences are the price. As you can see Apple charges 50% mark up over the other manufacters.

And if you really insist on the Mac, get the Dual 2Ghz Woodcrests, screw those friggin expensive top-of-line 3Ghz Dual beasts. Or hell, build a freaking $2000 PC, with a overclocked Core 2 Duo (or Woodcrest, but then you gotta buy a server 771 socket board), 2GB ram, and a Quadro highend videocard. It will do the same thing, even run OS X.

Dude, get a Dell Precision 690, it supports up to 64GB of ram, Apple MacPro only supports up to 16GB of ram. Thats 4 times the amount of ram.

***note: this is the first time I ever recommended a highend Dell Desktop PC to anyone on HWA***
