I know I know... i posted a thread the other week about how I moaned about constantly
upgrading, etc, and how it's breaking the bank, and about the PS3, etc, BUT....

I've totally contradicted myself here, and just ordered the 8800GTX!
What an idiot. See i'm an addict, I know that, and that thread I posted totally
makes me look a right arse haha! Anyways...

I wanna know if my 3800x2's gonna be alright with this card, you know.. for it's
potential. I'm guessing it'll be just fine, i don't think it's gonna create a massive
bottle-neck, but then this's why I'm asking the advice.

I've got it OC'd to 2.45Ghz. What you guys think??

PS: This is defo the last GPU upgrade!!

Tam...

No way. That cpu is a big bottleneck. Also depends on your resolution. You said you play at 1600x1200? That resolution is only beginning to stress the video card, and you are straining your cpu.

Even stock E6600s systems are cpu bound, and a E6600 is faster than a 2.8 Ghz FX62 AM2 AMD. You are using a 2.5 Ghz AMD and using DDR.

I guess its Ok as long as you don't go SLI ever without some serious upgrading to your cpu, or don't buy a larger/higher resolution monitor.

For now, you can step up to 8xAA/16xAF at 1600x1200. Enjoy :)

Congrats! Tam :)

I think X2 3800+ @ 2.45GHz should be fine with it. However, people claim that a faster CPU can really help.

To put things into perspective, the cost of another 8800GTX would buy you a E6400, a motherboard and 2 GB of DDR2 ram :)

Reject the package Tam! Otherwise, you'll come to that sad realization sitting in front of your "new" computer that you are, in fact, NOT $600 happier. (A lot like the 50,000 new PS3 owners!) Just my opinion...

Dont forget, e6400 is almost guaranteeed to 3.2ghz also.

But thats a topic for another discussion.

Believe it or not, you'll prob be able to play most current games 16x12 16xQA AA & 16xHQAF and max in game settings.

Those cards are beasts.

Don't forget that there's an inherent image quality difference between G70 and G80.

Thanks Supreet :) I hear you YoursTruly, but you gotta remember, i'm slowly
upgrading. Starting off with the 8800. In a few months, i'll have the Conroe & the MoBo.
If i win the Lotto, I'll go for thew highest upgrade I can lol!
I gotta open up my case and see if this monster fits in neat!

Have fun with it, and watch as it destroys anything the PS3 cares to do.

I'll swap :-(

Hmm, Tam, I would suggest E6600 and Asus P5B Deluxe Motherboard with it :)

Hehe yea i'm fecking awful for my upgrades! Cheers for the links Supreet.
I'm a graphics snob i hate to admit, nah i like to admit lol! I know it's stupid
money to throw aways, and to compliment this card, I now have to go for
next gen cpu Conroe. Personally, I don't wanna go for Intel. I'm with AMD,
and there's the MoBo, and the RAM... oh dear...
For the mean time, I'll have to stick with my current hardware for this card,
as it's near chrimbo (wish Santa did exist!!) and maybe start the upgarde process
in feb next year. I could go wild with the plastic, but i do actually know my limits... haha.

Why the hell are you comparing consoles to it?

You are telling me a $3000+ PC will kill a $600 console and you think you have a point? The bloody graphics card is more expensive than any console out and to have decent performance, you need to pay "decently" for a mobo, cpu and memory. Don't forget that you also need some solid hard drives as it is the biggest bottleneck on the PC.

Some people here are just so... :X

Tam,

Be patient. The 4x4 AMD systems are coming, although you still need the unholy trinity of cpu, mobo and ram.
