Yes, it is worth it, providing you don't sell your dog or cat for one.

This industry is crazy, somebody upgrades his PC and next thing you know there is news**t out which is much better & for the same price LOL,

im not worried too much about it, but Im wondering which X1950 Pro flavor i should go with after i do a BIOS flash on my mobo with a BIOS saviour attached. I like what ATI did with the X1950 Pro line, Very Powerful yet not so power hungry R570 Chip, on PCI E Native Crossfire. Hmm now only if we can get a R6core series like that, yet doesnt suck as much juice as even the X1950 Pro. Btw Guys that Brisbane AM2 3600 looks promising to me, If i was building a system currently id pick one of those and call it a day. Course AMD would be smart to unlock their Opterons (Workstation high performance market anyway) Because the FX is proving to be just as bad as a P4EE Prescott. It would be awesome if they unlocked some of their Sempron CPUs.

I dont know.... I'm kinda contemplating on doing one last upgrade to my current system. Since I have a ATI HDTV pci card..... I could upgrade my ATI AIW X800XT to a ATI X1950Pro agp to get a game boost and keep my system running longer before having to really gut it for a totally revamped system.. The only reason i would even think of doing it is just to keep my system a little longer and some game boost (well at least I hope so). I only had my system for 1.5yrs now.. doesnt seem too old to me...

by the way...... do you think there is any game performance increase going from a X800XT to a X1950Pro agp?? I mean a little boost or alot of boost that would justify the price of one..?

I only upgrade when I find I'm having a tough time with the games I currently play.
My last upgrade went from a gf 5700 to my current x850 pro agp. I had no choice but to upgrade as the old card could not play the MMO beta I was in.

I'm so happy with my new card, I'm not considering changing my aging sempron system for at least another year or more.

So the question you need to ask yourself, is what you currently have hindering your gaming experience/playing ability, and by how much.

I don't think I'll ever do one last AGP upgrade. Even when I got my agp Geforce 6800 just about 2 years ago now, I wondered if it was worth "one last AGP upgrade" and that was two years ago. Today, its not worth it unless you happen to have really good specs (except for the videocard).

When on a agp platform mb.... what would you consider "really good specs" that could warrant a "one last agp upgrade" on a Intel and AMD platform ??????

currently I have:

All In Wonder X800XT (stock 500core/500mem)
Intel 650 series 3.4ghz 2mb cache 800fsb
1gb of Corsair XMS dual channel at 2-3-3-5

in your opinion would a X1950pro agp help any significant in games like HALO (max in-game settings), BF2 (medium in-game settings), and BF2142 (medium in-game settings) which are the three games I play most and these games have very decent playable and enjoyable frame rates. Oh by the way... the resolution i run in these games are Halo (1440 x 900) and BF2/BF2142 (1330 x something) in game settings.

what about someone that is on a AMD agp system???? What level hardware they would need to have that would warrant an upgrade.??

Id say your system would be a good canidate for one last AGP upgrade.
Also someone with amd system like say a MSI Neo 2 Platinum and say a 4000+/FX55 /FX57 or X2 3800+ or better and 2 gig's of ram.

G. G is your board upgradable to the Core Duo with a bios upgrade?

I mean by really good specs is a system with solid good components. A good cpu, no-mismatched ram, but rather a nice 1GB or 2GB kit of dual channel stuff, and it does everything you want it to do. If you have a part of mulitple components in your system that need upgrading, then I wouldn't say upgrade your videocard. If everything else is fine, and you want a videocard upgrade then do it. With my system, my PSU is junk, my ram is junk, my CPU is a bit outdated, so I think it wouldn't be worth upgrading my videocard in my system one last time for AGP. For me it would be better to build something all new.

For you G.G., you have a solid good overall components and if your lacking the gaming performance you want, then adding a videocard might not be a bad idea since you have a good (but not highend) set of ram and a very decent CPU.

read my profile buddy, im soon to be doin some moddin of the bios, fresh OS install, Possible Retrograde of the Soundcard. Xtreme Music is a good board for the non MIDI based audiophiles. Unless if there is a board that produces just soley Hardsynth MIDI, then i may get a board like that. If not it looks like im retrograding

Mot,

unfortunately..... my mb does not have anymore bios updates... I am at the lastest it will ever get. My ABIT AS8 only goes up through the Pentium 4 line..... does not support Pentium D let alone Core Duo or even far fetched Core 2 Duo.... If I want support for Core 2 Duo in the future and still be able to run my Pentium 4 650 3.4ghz .... then I would have to replace my mb....but that would also include replacing the gpu to PCI-e and DDR-2... The real killer is not so much the mb.... were looking at about 150~250.00 depending what I get suckered into.... but more so with the memory.... I want to go with 2gb and with DDR2 that will hit skywards of 250.00 and above for any decent set of DDR2-800. so in the short run.... if i can get a good boost by just upgrading the gpu..... for around 250.00 ... that will keep my system running for another good year or two.

Water,

my system is a very solid machine. it does everything very well. even the three games i play does very well. actually im pretty pleased even today. My system contains verg good solid components... I was just curious if going from a X800XT base gpu to a X1950Pro agp will give me a boost that would be worth doing the upgrade in the gpu department. if it is just a small boost.... then I might just as well wait for a new system. I dont mind waiting on a new system. as for my memory... i currently have 1gb of Cosair XMS .. i can go up to 2gb of the very same type of memory right now.... all i have to do is take the very same memory out of my wifes system (exact same type/brand/model) .... and put it in my system and replace hers with either a spare single 512mb corsair xms to run in single channel mode.. or get her some Corsair value ram 1gb (2x512mb sticks) to continue running in dual channel. would doing that give me some system boost???

with my luck... if i decide to go with the x1950pro agp..... my mb would take a dive and I would be so SOL..(my board dont exist anymore).. hehehehe....
