well months of research into vista and gaming and tons of tried hardware i have finished it.

Cost was only about $1600.00 US.

hardware used

MSI motherboard
2 gig DDR 667 duel EEC @ 750 MHZ
160 gig WD HDD
120 gig WD HDD
4600 + X2 AM2 @ 2.7 Ghz 5000+ speeds with 2.25 Ghz HTT
antec 900 gaming case with 5 12 CM turbines Total noise level 30 DB
Enermax noise stalker PSU 44 amp total on 12+ rails
2 DVD RW,s
gigabyte CPU cooler . CPU @ 2.7 GHz is a cool 23c Idol 32C max load
Thermal take ram cooler
Antec GPU cooler
OS windows vista home - with a few of my own performance tweaks. Only uses 23% ram at start up.

heres the best part. Thanks to Nvidias very own bios engineer help with a extreme edition bios.

EVGA 8800 GTS 640 extreme edition stock 600 core 1800 memory . no over clocking

also added motherboard bios tweak added additional 512 meg to GPU memory . so Direct X reads it as 1.37 gig video memory . Setup is 640 meg used for game and 512 extra system memory used for PCI E textures. this was done in bios MSI editor. needless to say it was a 20% increase in performance. I can now play Fear completely maxed out in game and drivers. no stutter at all.

Very nice setup. Could hide some of those wires better than just sticking them in red tubing and having them all hang all over. But other than that I love it. Nice doll collection too, it matches the PC really nicely. That mouse looks rather junky no offense. I wouldn't want to play CS with that.

Oh btw, you don't have Aero glass turned on. What are you running Home Basic?

I agree since you were building from all new parts, and not existing components, I would have went for a Core 2 Duo, even if just the E4300 or E6400. Both are overclocking beasts. The E6300 isn't as great of a overclocker. But still great. The $170 E4300 easily overclocks to 3.0Ghz + with just a simple FSB overclock. And with just that your $170 CPU is in X6800 range.

How are the temps on that card what with the new BIOS? Would it be worth it for me to do the same seeing as we both have the same type card?

Everytime I use nTune to up the fan speed on my GFX card, it goes back to default after a reboot. I cant make it stay. If I use the fan control through nTune, my temps go form 64C to 55C. Ive tried upping the speed in RivaTuner, but that does not help. :(

Plug = GTX
Crash = GTS, no comparison!

But yeah, AM2????????

Well, I'm sure it will still perform well, even if it does bottleneck the crap outta your card. Its powerful enough, even when bottlenecked.

BTW, are those red tubes not hindering airflow, a LOT? Why not just sleave the cables instead? Sure, its a bit of extra work, but well worth it.

Nice rig though, enjoy!
