Don't waste money on a card that doesn't support DX10 if your a gamer

And athlon is behind now a days, so that's also a waste :)

Lovin' Windows 7

Are you sure it dont support Direct X10 and if not could u perhaps list some cards that do and would be compatible and from what ive heard Intel is a scam and ive always had trouble with them so ive decided to go for an AMD processor instead unless there is a better option other then intel

Dont waste yoru time or money on an AM2 system. It is crap. Get an Intel Core 2 Duo. Beats everything AMD has to offer. Go with either an E6400 or an E6600 and you wont regret it.

The only cards that support DX10 are the G80 line from nVidia. Thats it. At least until AMD/ATI comes out with their R600 which is still months away.

I am sure the GeForce 5, 6, and 7 series cards do NOT support DX10. DX10 came after those cards.

Whoever you heard say that Intel is a scam is an idiot and probably just a huge AMD fanboy. Benchmarks prove that C2D beats the hell out of AMD.

AMD and Intel are the only CPU makers atm. So its either or.

There is no way that you will be disappointed in a C2D.

Ok then if i do change over to a Intel then could you please tell me what motherboard as the motherboard i have listed is only AMD compatible and im not sure what to go for and thanks for the video card ill take a look at the newer ones thanks alot

Any1 know if there is an intel compatible motherboard which takes SLI so 2 x PCI-E slots at 16 x speed and a third one at 8 x speed for a physics-x card which i may look to install in the future.

That has the 2 x pci-e slots but not the extra slot for the physics-x card like my original motherboard did and i had already found a good motherboard which didnt have it and that was why i asked

In the S939 world, Gigabyte was a better option than Asus. In the C2D S775 world, its the other way around.

Your system looks fine. Get the AM2 only if that CPU is cheap, because the Core 2's are faster. (AM2's are NOT CRAP. That is just a lousy thing to say) CrAsHnBuRnXp :O

Im not going to argue with you Super because you dont know when to leave well enough alone. I am not going to turn this thread into a flame war and lock it either. I am going to say this once and drop it. AM2 is in no comparison to C2D. So AM2 is pretty much pointless. Its just a lousy upgrade from S939. Ive said it, drop it, move on.

Just mind your words next time. There is nothing Crap about the AM2.
You could of taken the word crap out.

Don't know where you got this from, but i would edit it if I were you, there is no need for it. I've made no attempt to cause that.

I never said you were turning it into a flame war. Learn to read Super. I said it as a precautionary before it began.

After taking this into consideration. i came up with

motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel
processor: E6600
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB S300
RAM: OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel
Graphics card: GeForce 8800GTS
Case: Thermaltake Tsunami Aluminium Black Case with Window - No PSU
Dvd/rom Sony DRU-830A 18X DVD+/-RW/RAM
Power supply: OCZ GamexStream 700W
cpu cooler: Arctic Cooling Alpline 7

John,

At this point in time, what you have there is the better choice... that C2D and 8800GTS will do you good.... and when more 8xxx series are released.... the prices for 8800GTS should go down and you can get another one for SLi later on.

the C2D is really the better choice at this time if you are buying today.

So go ahead and whip out that plastic and place the order.

Great choices this time around. I would go with a different DVD writer drive, either BenQ, NEC, or Pioneer. I personally would also get a WD hard drive instead, but Seagate is very good too. And a different CPU cooler, but other than that, the main hardware is very good components. That CPU cooler doesn't look any better than the stock Intel cooler that comes with the E6600 in my opinion. If you want a nice aftermarket cooler, spend the extra money and get a Tuniq Tower 120. If not just stick with the stock Intel cooler. No point of spending $10 on that Alpine 7 that doesn't look that great of a cooler.

No the AM2 is not crap, they are selling quite well here in Canada at Future Shop & Best Buy.
We all know that the Core 2 is faster, that is just plain FACT. You don't have to bad mouth the AM2 to make that point. That is just stupid especially coming from a mod. No hard feelings,

I don't like Sony very much, but I have to be the first to admit that there DVD burners are 100% number 1. I have an older Sony DVD burner, and it is faster & does a better job then my newer LG, NEC & LiteOn burners.

Your Sony DVD burner is just fine IMO.

I wouldn't buy a Sony burner, since some of the money probably goes to the RIAA (no facts to back that up though). But to each his own.

No AM2 is not crap, but if you want the best performance per your money you will go Core 2 Duo. AM2 is actually a really good platform, and it would be the best if Intel didn't come out with such a kick ass CPU.

Oh, I never new that about Sony? I only bought one due to it being on sale like 3 years ago, and now for some reason, it plays single DVD/CD format out there excluding HD & Blu-Ray ;)

AM2 & Intel's kick-ass CPU? I agree, that was my basic point, but anyway.
