Same thing here. I was really amazed at how many ads there really were.

Such is the real world nowadays - websites are free and sponsored by advertisers.

But you have to admit that the fact that we removed half of ads for logged-in users and are participating in this conversation is more than what most other websites do for their users.

Better how? I like the ones we have. They say "We're HWA, not some other cheap PHPBB or vBulletin driven site."

I think this answer should be a part of some kind of FAQ :)

How about adding Systemax (NYSE: SYX) to the stock watch? They own TigerDirect (US & Canada), Misco (Europe), the Global Computer chain, and of course, Systemax PC. They're a large player on the technology front even if it isn't very obvious. Newegg would be a good addition too but, that is privately traded. Acer (TSEC: 2353)?

How about moving the "Popular Articles" box on the homepage from the third column to the first column. It will look neater.

Could we delete the small unnamed box in first column as well? It seems like it shouldn't be there.

I rearranged things on the left side (and removed "columns") so perhaps now it's a little bit more useful order.

The unnamed box on the bottom of right side contains a banner ad, which you are probably not seeing due to an ad-blocker.

We've already had this discussion about 20 times in the past. Those chipper little yellow boxes aren't going anywhere anytime soon. :) As for avatars, they'll just increase server load. HWA is one of the more professional-looking sites out there, and, personally, I like it that way. If you want to share a picture, just upload it to http://www.imageshack.us http://www.photobucket.com or http://bayimg.com and post the link in your profile.

It kinda looks a little croweded now...might be excessive but maybe breaking it into groups like "Hardware, Software, Mnaufacture" with a JS show/hide script? Just a thought.

Also, I haven't seen any of those uber annoying full-screen ads anymore. Many thanks. :D

Poll functions:

I'm not sure if phpbb offers it, but I know for a fact that vBulletin offers it. When users create a thread, they have the option of creating a poll.

So if I wanted to post "Should I get the Antec Nine Hundred or the Coolermaster RC-690?" there can be a poll where people can post their votes.

Vitaliy, I'm sure you've played around with other forum software. Check out any vBulletin forum, and you'll see what I mean, if you're unsure.

Poll:
Should we get a poll feature for HWA?

Yes: 1
No: 0

Yes 1
No 1

Poll. Which is better ATI or nVidia? I can see it already. I've never seen a poll that was more than 9% useful. And I think I'm being generous with 9%

Yes, phpBB has that feature. Did have it since I can remember.

It was never an official feature and the original plan was to just use it during login/registration.

I reverted to the way it was for the past few months so if you really want you can use it to browse the site. You'll have to put up with some SSL warnings as some things are not served over SSL.

I'll think about it.. I just saw that official WoW forums added this a few days ago.

How about a post lock out to prevent duplicate or triple replies? After someone submits a reply, they cannot submit another reply for 15 seconds. It requires a cookie, of course, but duplicates are quite common place because of the network hiccups here.

Forget the lock out, just give us a delete post option. So we don't have to look stupid with a "oops! double post" post.
