Okay, I'm gonna ask my parents to get me a new keyboard this holiday season. What should I tell them to get me? I was highly considering the Saitek Eclipse because its rather cheap, and they could still get me something else too ;)

I currently just have an old Dell keyboard. I want something with a blacklit. Under or around $50.

I'm also thinking of getting a wired mouse, screw this damn Logitech MX1000 and its skippy-ness. So G5 or MX518?

I have the Logitech MX518 and I'd say it's pretty nice. To be fair, I've never used the G5, but there is nothing inherently wrong with the MX518. The sensitivity options are nice, there are back and forward buttons for surfing (and programmable as functions in games), and the window flow button for Vista. All-in-all, a solid mouse.

Conversely, I've never used the MX518, but I've used two G5's. I have nothing bad to say, other than, if you're going to get a G5, get the blue one. The orange-rust one only has one thumb button.

Adjustable sensitivity is nice. I don't use it much, but it's nice if, in the middle of a game, I start to feel like I need that extra kick, I bump the sensitivity up a notch, and I get in a few extra headshots.

I have nothing bad to say about the MX518, though. :D

On the subject of a keyboard, I'd actually recommend the G11. I have the G15, same thing, but with an LCD screen. The screen is about useless, and I wish I'd waited until the G11 came out. Que sira, sira. It's a damn fine keyboard, though. Media keys, a handy little switch to disable the Windows key while you're in a game so you don't have to worry about it, and it just looks sharp.

Also, quick macros are fun for Instant Message Spamming. I have my G2 key set to

You mean the Saitek Eclipse II....I hope ?

It's ok, just a standard keyboard (no USB ports) with three different colors to choose from. I have have mine for a while the keys are holding up. The original Saitek Eclipse had problems with the characters fading.

I'm using both the Saitek Eclipse II and the MX518. I've never used the G5, but this mouse does do the trick. I dunno if it's cheaper than the G5. I'd have to research that one. I would believe it is.

The keyboard is great too. It's plain and simple with a few multimedia buttons for music and volume, changing backlighting colors and such. Main reason I got this is because it's a standard sized keyboard and I can fit both this and my mouse on the keyboard undertray. If I got a bigger keyboard like the Logitech G15/11 or a Razer Tarantula, I'd have to put my mouse on top of my desk. If you like simplicity with a few extras, then you'd like the Saitek Eclipse II.

friend of mine owns the Eclipse its nice.

an a G5 mouse I believe. Never heard him complain.

I myself use a Logitech 200 Basic USB keyboard and a MX310 mouse. No fancy back lighting, or anything, but works great for me.

After spilling an entire drink over a logitech keytboard, spraying it out in the kitchen sink, an still using it without any problems, I'll never buy a different brand :D

The G11/G15 is too big for my keyboard draw. The new G15 is nice, but too expensive. I'm really thinking about getting the Logitech G5 "v2" and the original Saitek Eclipse. I don't like the Eclipse II all that much. I think for the price, you can't beat the original Eclipse, nice and simple I think.

I use the G5 and its a super gaming mouse. Adjustable weights and on the fly DPI adjustments. If I was getting one now I would get the G9 all the same.

As for the G15 the screen is not USELESS, if you go to the correct links you can customise the screen for all manner of things.

Like I use mine for the scores in BF2142 and I have the performance LCD also to see how much my rig is getting stressed and oh yeeah it looks dam good too.

I would get the old G15, if it fit in my draw. The new G15 would, but too much money. The old G15 is at a decent price now, but again too big. So I think I'm gonna get a Eclipse for now.
