Yeah, it's dead, Newegg has like 9 S939 CPUs. I'd look on your local craigslist, someone's surely getting rid of one.

For a start, thats probably one of the worst boards you could look for!

But yeah, they are very difficult to find, as they're not made anymore.

Try e-bay etc you might get lucky, or even trade sections on other tech websites

Funny thing is, I can find S754 boards listed [on DABS].......................

I bought a 939 motherboard a few months ago but the supply looks like it's totally dried up. I remember having about 8 different boards to choose from but looking around the web hardly any of the online shops have them anymore.

Found a couple at Aria:

Dublin's right, it's a strange one as 754 boards are still listed and even socket A boards are still knocking around.

Sometimes a local pc shop may have one sitting around that they couldnt pawn off, or they may be able to order you one from the manufacturer.

You would be best off going with intel, but as you said you dont want to, Im not going to be like a fanboy and TRY and persuade you.
Would probably be best then to get a Socket AM2+ early next year. They arent too popular at the moment, and they are as rare as hens teeth in the great AU. If you dont mind holding off for a bit, the AM3 boards shouldnt be too far off.
Up to you ;P

Thank you,
John Jiang

Yeah, AM2 is nearing the end of its life as a socket. I still wish they had never created it and just stuck with 939 (which I still use). I'll just remind you that AMD has shown no signs of creating a processor that can outperform the core 2 duo, much less the core 2 quad.

All that in mind, I'd wait till socket AM3 comes out if at all possible.
