Question for you guys,
I've been holding on with my system for as long as possible (See Specs) and I can't take it anymore. :)

I've the option to buy the following for 200 us dollars

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe
Corsair XMS2 2Gb DDR2 6400 CAS4
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

I will be keeping the rest of my hardware (Video is 7900gt)

I understand the mb isn't sli, but I have no interest or plans on going sli.

Will this be a nice upgrade for me, without spending alot?
I know the cpu is over a year old already, but not sure what to do.
Mainly use my pc for FPS gaming and home studio recording (guitar)
thx

Read this review and make up your own mind. It's a pretty good comparison for you. Look at the 4000+ performance as your current system.

Any suggestions for a cpu cooler? I don't have alot of money to spend, and the cpu I mentioned doesn't have a heatsink or fan.

I think Zalmans are good. The 9700LED is the cooler of choice for many reviewers, and even Intel's recent Demo Skulltrail system used two 9700LEDs...

The Zalmans are very good, but it is true that there are cheaper or similarly priced alternatives that do perform better. The Zalmans may not cool as well as other coolers on the market but they are built well and of good quality. They also look pretty decent too.

Oh and by the way I deleted your double post.

I'd suggest taking that deal. In Canadian dollar terms, that particular motherboard is $105, that RAM kit is about $85, and that processor is about $280. As a total, that's about $470 which isn't even including our 14% tax or the shipping (if that applies) which brings it to a grand total of $535.80. Seeing as the Canadian dollar and American dollar are pretty much one for one, that is an incredible deal. Um, by the way, is the seller interested in selling it to other people? ;)

Yeah, I took the deal! Pick it up tomorrow. I've been outta gear world for most of 07.
Thats why I'm still playing with my 3200.
I've been focusing alot on my guitar playing and songwritting.
I bought a '63 american reissue fender jaguar. Which set me back about $1200 usd.

I did get the chance to play the hell out of cod4 and moh airborne.

Hey 13 Bats,
Don't let US retailers give you any crap about CAN$<US$.
Recently, the Canadian $ has matched or passed the US$....Thanks Fed and GWB!
Shop wisely!

Me personally, I'd take a CPU hit for a new GPU if I were you.

OK, Well I have everything installed and running and I can't believe the difference!
Overall operation runs amazingly fast, even internet surfing seems faster!?

I followed the advice from recent topics on ocing the e6600 and I have mine at 3.01 at a temp of CPU 29c-31c and system 35c-36c at idle. Haven't done any gaming yet, but can't wait.

Thanks for all your help.

Internet usage will be faster because of the faster CPU you got. The faster the CPU the faster you can browse anything including the web. Reason being is the CPU is faster, its a dual core, and is able to calculate much much faster than your single core at the same speed. Thus you are able to do more quicker.

internet usage will be faster .... give me a break..... you web browsing wont be any faster your browser will load quicker ... flash may start after the d/l of it is done a little faster but the web being faster ..... on a 25Mbit connection your theoretical maximium bandwith is 3.125MB/sec or roughly the speed of a 20x cd-rom drive..... not that much data to process my first pentium (which was 75mhz) could do that..... maybe it's just me .... but last time i checked i had to pay my isp more dough for more flow

What we were talking about was just general web surfing, not d/ling.

Aw, give the guy a break. He's just received a substantial upgrade for a very nice price and he just wants to bask in that glory for the time being. Don't rain on his parade.
