Ello, want to know how far I should push my Q66. Its currently at 2.53, but I dont know how far to push it.
My mobo is decent and made for overclocking. My cooler isnt anything special, but its better than stock (its an Arctic somethingorother).
I dont want to push it to the limmet/shorten its life span considerably, or push it to a level I cant take advantage of.
Rest of spect in the profile =)

Core i7 2.67GHz, 6GbDDR3 RAM, 6TB of HDDs, EVGA GTX275, Asus P6T X58 Mobo, Creative X-Fi Gamer.
LianLi PC A70 chassis that isn't an eyesore. No LEDs here!

I've pushed my Q6600 to 3.60GHz and the RAM at 1800MHz.
I'm using water cooling tho. If you have a really good heat sink, you'll get 3.40GHz
no sweat providing you have the G0.

I can push my Q6600 to 3.80GHz but my Volts will be near or at 1.60 for the CPU
which's somin I'd prefer not to do.

....I'm back, but only as a part-timer... :)

You should be able to hit 3.2ghz.I have a Thermaltake TMG i1 heatsink which is just like yours only made by Thermaltake and im at 3.2ghz..But only if you have a G0 quad if its a B3 it will run way to hot for 3.2ghz with that cooler

For any real benefit, if you're gonna OC to anything less than 3.0GHz, i think
it's pointless (with a Q6600). 3GHz and over is when you'll get results.
Gaining say an extra 400MHz or so to like 2.80GHz is not gonna make much
difference - that's from past experience, and my learning curve.

In fact, if you get a really good HSF you can get 3.50 to 3.60GHz. The only
difference between my OC and you OC wud be the temps, mines wud be a lot
lower due to liquid cooling, that't the only difference

Hey guys,
This is kind of not on topic, but I am thinking about getting a Q6600 G0, but I dont know how much of a performance increase I will see. What are you guys getting in Pcmark? Just as a reference, I know there are other platform differences. I just benched my computer (as in sig), except I upped the ram to 1020Mhz, and I scored 8093, which is fair decent I reckon:

What would I notice with a Q6600? This processor I got atm has another ~120Mhz left in it if I really want to push it. It only cost me $94AU so I dont mind if I blow it lol :D

Thanks,
John Jiang

I get 14600+ on 3DMark06. I don't use PC Mark. Click on my name to see
my current build

Tam, that doesnt help me lol. You have a better graphics card. Please tell me your CPU score, that would be a lot more applicable.

I just managed to get it to 3.1ghz stable. I put the ram back down to 858mhz 4-4-4-12 2.2volts. But I've seen Q6600s get less in PCMark than I do. For a 1.8ghz cut down chip, its not bad...Awesome overclocker.

Okay, its official. My lowly E2160 @ 3.1Ghz is faster than a Q6600 at stock. Not bad for next to nothing. Tomshardware's cpu charts has the Q6600 scoring 7753 in PCMARK05's Cpu test suite. I just ran that then and my setup gets 7865. I know, not a big difference, but considering they run a better motherboard and better ram, I think I have done pretty well. I might try to push 3.2Ghz later on, but over all it's been GREAT!!! ahaha

I have full licence for 03,05 & 06. I just DL'd PCMark05 and i see no point in
paying another sum of cash since i have 3 benchmarks already, but the so called
PCMark Demo only does my system. Not CPU, MEMORY, etc. Stuff that!

well guys, I cant push my Q6600 G0 more than 2.66,
in 2.66:
when i press the power button, the PC will turn on for 2 second and off again for 1 second and on again, not much of a problem but I got some critical error when i play Rising Force AND it freezez when i play crysis ( i usually play in almost everythin ultra high and it usually works flawlessly) so? what should I dooooo??

Well I don't think that any of the revisions of the Q6600 has that low limit of overclocking. I think it could be your PSU or RAM. Check the settings of your ram to make sure is not already overclocked, or try unlinking it from the FSB. Hmm, what else... try raising the voltage for the cpu a little.

That#s because your volts for cpu, ram etc are not set for the OC
