I'm looking to buy a new video card for my computer. I have a really tiny monitor, so I'm not going to be playing games at high resolutions. The only really new game I play is Oblivion. Also, I don't usually turn on anti-aliasing or anything like that. I don't want to spend over $100. Can you reccomend the best video card for my needs?

Hmm, believe or not, Oblivion is a videocard-demanding game, for under $100 it might be hard to get something that will run it well. How big is your monitor? Resolutions?

Well In my opinion the best cheapest performing video card you can buy is the HD3850 for $169.99. Here is the link in case you wan to check it out. You said you play Oblivion, can you tell what are your specifications? Need to know how much of a performance increase you'll see from what you currently have right now.

I'll never understand why when someone says "under $100" people suggest cards that are closer to $200. My recommendation is the XFX 8600GT 512MB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150247

My old 6800GT was able to run Oblivion well on medium settings and I currently play on Ultra High settings with an OCed 7900GS. This is all at a 1280 X 1024 res. I figure you shouldn't have any problem playing on medium to high settings with the 8600GT since you said your monitor is really tiny. By tiny I would assume you are running at 800 X 600. If you are running at 1024 X 768, I would call your monitor average, rather than tiny. Don't forget about the double lifetime warranty you get with an XFX card.

I am using 1gb of DDR400 ram, an AMD 3200+ processor (yes, my computer sucks, i know), and integrated graphics (geforce 6150b). My monitor is about 13 inches and the max resolution is 1024-768. I am playing Oblivion at 640-480. I am now looking at a 7300gt. Is that a good idea?

7300GT is not a gamer's card. If you're looking to be a bit cheaper and aren't concerned about Dx10, you could go with this 7600GT for $87.99 plus a $20 rebate that brings it to $67.99.

It uses the GDDR3 memory, so it'll be faster. It's a solid mid-range gamer card.

Well mainly because since he's asking I am assuming that he doesn't know what to buy or is confused on performance gain, I did see his budget but as a recommendation I advised the 3850 mainly because it's the best non expensive card you can get today. It's better to know that for a little more you can buy a card that will last alot longer and can play current game at mostly high settings. I have a 7600gt and it can't keep up with current games, I mean of course I can play them with most high settings but at less than 30fps Is a bit of pain and ruins the experience.

If you want to go cheap then by all means buy the 7600gt, but please do yourself a favor, save a little mroe money and buy the 3850 you won't regret maxing out the quality settings in games and getting terrific performance.

If you can hold out for a little while ATI apparently has some new cards coming that fit into your budget:

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/70104/

No word on performance yet but I would think (hope ;)) the 3650 should be able to equal a 7600GT.

Yes I am using pci-x 16. Thanks for the reccomendations. Sorry to the people who reccomended ati cards, but i'm probably going to get an nvidia card (i've had some bad experiences with ati)

If your only looking at Nvidia and a $100 budget then your best option is probably a 8600GT.

Here are two 512MB 8600GTs under $100:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814122033

ATI does have some amazing deals though such as this HD2900 Pro for $129:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102712
The HD2900GT is faster than a 8600GTS.

The HD2900GT is not bad either.:_)

That's my mistake, it is a HD2900GT. Very good card for $129, even I was amazed by the price considering it beats out $200 8600GTS cards. I edited it in my last post to make it less confusing.
