Hey guys, as you might now know I've recently acquired an HD 3870, so I thought I should upgrade my other parts as well, this is what I have now:

AMD X2 5600+ ~ 3.31GHz
ASUS M2N-E Motherboard
ATI HD 3870
2GB Transcend PC-6400
WD 160GB SATA HDD
Cooler Master Elite RC-330
MX518

Installation was really painless, following are some pictures I took while I was assembling this computer as I wanted to share with you guys.

Motherboard, Processor and RAM (Note: I replaced Kingston KVR with Transcend later)

Overclocking wasn't too tough on this board, however I had to keep my RAM on 2T for optimal performance, today when I tried to power my rig after couple of hours, it wouldn't POST (happened for the very first time), I might have to bring down the core clock to 3.2GHz in future if it happens again.

Crysis:

It runs Crysis fine at High settings (Post effects: Medium, 2x AA, 16x AF) in Windows XP at around 25-30 FPS and 15-20 FPS in Windows Vista with Very High settings at 2xAA and 8x AF.

I'll post Crysis video/pictures with r_displayinfo=1/fraps in XP/Vista_x86 within few days. :)

Alright, Supreet! Nice Build. You need to drop that stock cooler and get yourself a Zalman, though. ;)

Nice rig you got there Supreet. You beat my 8800GTS 320mb(8800GTS 512mb will be here tonight) by 141 points in 3Dmark06.I cant believe that your stock aluminum AMD H/S lets you OC like that.Boy AMD dual cores must run cool. I cant OC like that with my Intel heatsink and its half copper

This was run with my DFI 965-S and E6420 and my 8800GTS 320mb.Not my quad and 8800GTS 512mb

Nice setup you have there. I love seeing other people's systems.

When I first looked at your videocards, I was wondering how you got reference cards but then I remembered ATI sold cards with their own chips on it.

Jeez..I remember not so long ago thinking my setup was king of the hill because it got just over 8000 in 3Dmark06. I can feel an upgrade coming on..

I score about 1600 in 3DMark06. I know it sucks, but I take comfort knowing that my 5 year old PC gets the same score on 3DMark06 as a $2500 Mac Pro (mostly do to a lackluster 7300GT, but still its $2500 and my PC is ancient.)

It also shows how much a 7300GT sucks. Honestly if I was buying a $2500 PC, I would want something better than a 7300GT. That's pretty sad to me that Apple gives you a $30 videocard in a $2500 PC.

I guess if your gonna just run Windows on it then you can stick any old videocard into the Mac Pro and it would work fine, but then again that would defeat the whole purpose of buying a Mac in the first place. I doubt OS X has as wide of support for videocards as Windows does.

Nice rig, Supreet. I like that case. I've been quite happy with my LL for a while now but that black mesh front is pretty sexy, just like a black mesh front on a beautiful woman. Um, would be.

You're braver than I am to assemble all your new parts whilst drinking, especially a friggin pint of whisky. Sheesh. Or was it just brandy?

Thanks guys, yea this thing stays relatively cool as well. After playing Crysis I can see CPU temps touching 50-55 at max, but its winter time here, will probably have to get a new A/C in summers :) lol

Dr. Peaceful, I can't find Zalman or other top-of-the line coolers here, also its very hard to get these coolers here in India, currently this rig is working fine and stays cool, so I'll have to be satisfied with the stock cooler.

One thing for sure, I was thinking to to purchase E6750 & MSI P35 Platinum initially, but when I went to market and acquired prices for it, I was shocked. Hence I decided to go AMD route again, and so far I think I made the correct decision.

Just played Crysis under Windows XP for a while again, I just noticed AA was set to none under game settings, the moment I enabled 2x AA (Box Filter) FPS dropped by large difference. I was constantly getting 20-25 FPS in all settings set to High (except for Post effects) with 2xAA and 16x AF (1280x1024). But the moment you drop AA to 0x, FPS goes straight to 30+FPS (with 16xAF). Also it goes above 40 if you drop the AF to 0x too. But I think optimum settings for this rig would be:

Game Settings: All settings to High (except for Post effects: At Medium), 0xAA, 16AF, 1280x1024 Resolution.

I have the video with me, just looking for a good encoder to post it on the Internet. Will do it soon enough. :)
